[Drance] Updates from Rick Tocchet on Friday: Demko starts Friday vs. St. Louis. DeSmith will start Saturday vs. New York. Teddy Blueger won’t skate Friday. Ilya Mikheyev is cleared to play both legs of the back-to-back, but the club will manage his minutes (no PK).

They really are trying to work DeSmith before he takes cold turn. Or maybe they believe DeSmith is a good luck charm or smtn, he has yet to lose a game.
Makes a ton of sense that they are going to manage Mikheyevs minutes early on and ramp him up.
Mikheyev might be back in the lineup, but it might take months until he gets his afterburners back.. and it’s no guarantee he ever gets them back.
Edit: Didn’t catch he was back in the lineup already (currently somewhere warmer than Canada so didn’t catch the last 2 games).
I like having Demko vs Blues and DeSmith vs Rangers. We have to remember that it is early but Blues could potentially be a competing for the same Wild card spot we would be competing for later in the season (yes I hope we secure top 3 in the division but it is a long season we got to be prepare for any scenario), it is better to make sure we take the points against them.
What’s up with Blueger? Wasn’t it initially just a bruise? He’d really help the bottom 6 and bolster the PK even further. Probably be able to rest Petey and Miller once Teddy and Mikheyev can play on it. Make their 5 on 5 play even better.
