    Cooney hit like a train,when Young got hit and opened up,he stopped and looked around like wtf?

    I don't think he got rushed into the Holmes fight he gave Larry all he could handle he just run into a all time great

    I trained in Gleasons gym and Cooney was there many times, but never spared with him . I was 29 and he was 23 about when this fight took place. Victor Valle’ was always there to his trainer good men both of them. Great memories for sure.🥊🥊🥊🥊👏👍🏼 Good fight ✅🥊😁

    I forgot how successful and dominant Gerry Cooney was before he fought Larry Holmes. Nobody before Mike Tyson had any success against Larry Holmes. Larry had the misfortune to follow Muhammed Ali and pretty much end Ali's boxing career and then he was quoted badly once saying disrespect to Rocky Marciano ( ?Rocky M wasn't good enough to carry my jock strap") then of course a young Mike Tyson at his very best destroyed Larry Holmes.

    He wasn’t himself
    He was …uninterested and completely blah
    His chest looked good for feeding a newborn
    This was a sham

    I watched the Jimmy Young vs Ali fight. Jimmy's defense amazed me.

    Apparently Gil Clancy was always a bad commentator but they just kept putting him in there for that pay day even ten years after this. He should of retired here to save himself more damage and he may have left with his brain in tact.

    Cooney’s managers did a very poor job preparing him for the Holmes fight. Cooney had way too long of a break prior to the fight, and they didn’t encourage him to do what he did best, namely knock his opponent into oblivion. Vs Holmes they were afraid he would “run out of gas” if he exerted himself too much in the early rounds. That was a terrible mindset for Gerry to have. His best strategy by far was to take control early in the match and put his opponents away. Any worry of running out of gas is a total non-issue!’ Ironically, running out of gas versus Holmes is exactly what did happen, because the fight went too long!!

    1. 10 9 Cooney slightly the busier of the pair.
    2. 10 9 Cooney again scoring more without dominating. Needs to go downstairs more often. Young looking ominous.
    3. 10 9 Clear win for Cooney, who exploited the bad cut over Young's right eye.
    4. 10 8 There was much blud spilt.

    Jimmy Young weighed around 208 for his fight with Ali, a fight that I saw when I was still an undergraduate back in 1976. Young was never a favorite of mine although he was hard to hit and he defeated Ron Lyle twice by landing a lot of punches while Lyle lay on the ropes. Young also fought to a draw in his 2nd fight with Earnie Shavers after getting knocked out by Shavers in their first fight. I hated the way Young fought against Foreman, tying up constantly on the inside, but it was George Foreman's own fault for not being in top shape.
