Avs Lose 4-0 for 2nd Straight Game. Cale Makar Seems to Have Avoided Disastrous Injury

The Colorado Avalanche have lost that love and feeling. That love and feeling being another name for goals.

After losing their first game of the season 4-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Avs followed that up with a 4-0 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. Where has the scoring touch gone?

We discuss the recent scoring drought as well as the player against Cale Makar that sent him crashing into the boards, which initially looked worse than it turned out to be. But should the fact Makar returned to the game forgive the play that had Avs Nation holding their breath? Not at all.

  1. All the cohesion that this team had for the first 6 games has vanished. Our top line looks lost, and the puck decisions from top to bottom have been terrible. On top of everyone in front of Giorgiev being just straight up bad, the man himself is letting in some goals that for sure should have been stopped. The second goal today was a perfect example of one he should have had. Compound all that with the fact that everyone but the 4th line is not putting in even close to 100% effort, and the outcome is this garbage play.

Idk wtf changed between the first six games and the last two, but they need to figure it tf out fast.

  2. When you can’t score on power plays, it means that you are inviting other teams to play dirty because you can’t punish them on the score board. It’s a huge problem for Avs right now.

  3. I think they looked tired and they really lack team chemistry. They need a few games at home to get some proper practices to get the timing down

  4. What a Charmin Ultra Soft ref for giving Mack the 2 and a 10! I was almost more mad about that than I was the missed call. Not that it changed the outcome at all but come on, have some accountability for your mistakes.

Great pull with the T Swift. I never would’ve guessed she would find her way on this list.
My sound check is… Nothing Feels Right – Ozzy Osbourne: The Avs look off. Passes aren’t crisp, shots are wild, everything thing feels forced and now the Avs have been blanked back to back games.

  5. My feeling from the last two frustrating games…all I can come up with is a Band-Maid Sound Check #7…Screaming

Feelings from the game aside, if you see Band-Maid live…you'll quickly become a Maidiac and forget all about your Swifty phase. LOL

  6. We've seen Bednar coach this team up time and time again. He will get things fixed shortly.

  7. Say what you want about MacDermid, but he would NOT have let that hit on Makar go unanswered. That's one of the reasons that he's on the team. He should definitely be on the bench for Buffalo's bext visit to Denver. Everyone in the league should know what's going to happen if you even come close to our messing with our superstar. P.S. Where was Manson?

  8. At the end of the season, my guess is that we will all laugh at ourselves at our concern 8 games in. However, what bothers me is the lack of response from the team at the hit on Makar. In the heat of the moment, it looked worse than it really was. Stick 5 goals on them in return, or beat the crap out of Okposo; they did neither. Nate yelling? Big deal. Words are words. There was no action. Yet you don’t want Nate hurting himself either. The problem to me is now other teams know that they can tee off on a star, and the rest of the team will stand idly by, not giving a pinch of crap. THAT is the big issue.

  9. The lack of scoring is concerning and also frankly weird. We haven't been shut out in back to back games since 2016. Pittsburgh was coming off a 3 game losing streak and they just had a masterfully executed game plan, so I can look past that, but Buffalo – that was like 18 guys playing their first game together, or something. I wonder if "Blendnar" needs to just set the lines and stick with them for the next game. All that being said – 8 games, 6 on the road, and they're 6-2. It's not time to panic yet.

Very glad Cale is okay. In true Cale fashion, he said it's probably his fault. I'm not sure it's fair to criticize Nate for his reaction. Gabe would likely have taken that same misconduct.

9News slayed it with the article photo, "Broncos Win!" and their caption: "NOBODY BEATS THE DENVER BRONCOS 17 TIMES IN A ROW!" 😂

  10. I was at the game and it went silent for us Avs fans when makar went down.
That sparked Mack getting that misconduct. I definitely wasn’t expecting that outcome 4-0 but now that I think about usually after a streak you have some set backs.

  11. So much for this team to change it after that PIT performance – another 0-4, can't wait for their game in Vegas, will not watch that, either. Perhaps it bites them when you only go for cheap additions to your team and give unexplainable long contracts to Wood and Colton – can they score more goals than just 1? Also, the Avs might have gotten an experienced backup for Georgiev. With those two they have right now, Georgiev might have to play 70+ games. What really angers me is how a team that wins 6 in a row falls off a cliff. Probably they should get some hungry players from the Eagles and send some of these losers to the AHL!

  12. Over the past two game's, Avs have hit the other team's Skates and sticks with bad passes more times than i could count

  13. Yesss Kyle, iPhone gang rise up. 💪🏻🍎

In all seriousness though, I’m hoping this is just a road slump. Binnington has a tendency to stand on his head against the Avs, so if we want to beat St. Louis this week, the boys have got to relax a little bit and find their groove.

The team looked panicked out there, periods 2 and 3 of yesterday’s game were especially bad. It was like the guys stopped trusting each other and started forcing individual plays (which of course, Buffalo saw right through and were able to stop). I also feel bad for Georgiev, I’m sure he’s not happy with 4 games in a row of 4 goals allowed.

Things I’d like to see on Wednesday:
    – MacK and Moose on the same line.
    – Prosvetov / Annunen (let Georgie mentally reset)
    – Healthy Cale
    – 3rd line goal
    – PP goal
