Let’s talk about two of the newest Toronto Maple Leafs signings, Jimmy Vesey and Zach Bogosian.

They both signed one-year deals, with Vesey’s contract being at $900,000, and Bogosian’s being worth $1 million.

This comes after the Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated from the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Vegas Golden Knights got eliminated by the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals in Game 5, and the New York Islanders were eliminated by the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6.

  1. Simmonds and Vesey are really bad signings for the Leafs. They're just big bodies that can't bring any production, and only hit people. Being physical only works if the player themselves can actually produce because defense is supposed to create offense. They're still forwards. Scoring is still the main goal of their position. I expect Vesey to get buried in the minors. The Leafs' KHL signings and Joey Anderson are far better options (take it from a Devils fan on the Anderson bit).

I can respect the Bogosian signing. He's a 7th defensemen, but he's not really a trainwreck either. He's decent. It's a great upgrade from having NHLers like Marincin playing top pair minutes.

  2. Remember the hype for Vesey
Celebs were trying to get him to sign with New York and look at him now

  3. It’s getting crowded on the left side…Mik, Engvall, maybe Kerfoot even though Kerfoot has value and plays centre/right….stay tuned!!!

  4. They have done this a few times now. Sign a bunch of fringe guys like Vesey or older guys and create competition. The idea I think is that you end up with a hungry bottom of the line up players who are going to bring it every night to stay in the league. If it doesn't work out the Leafs can afford to pay him that money to play for the Marlies or to just go away.

  5. I'd like to see them package Kerfoot+ Dermott or Holl, get a D who's an upgrade but only makes about $3mil, resign Mikhayev to a 1.5/2 million deal, then get Joe Thornton for 1 mil and have him play 3rd line C. Or if not Jumbo Joe a Corey Perry on a cheap deal.
