You would think the OHL would have at least one forward good enough not to be outscored by an 18 yr old dman.
Awesome for Brzustewicz, he is playing very well, and awesome for the Canucks.
We will see if he can stay at or near the top as the season goes on.
Though I would hope that the OHL would be producing enough high end forwards that the leading scorer wouldnt be an American Dman, but here we are. I have said it before, the Canadian junior leagues (Canada in general) need to ramp up their development. Canadian junior leagues are still #1 worldwide, but it wont be long before America with their larger talent pool catches up to us developmentally wise. We are already seeing NCAA prospects getting more hype than CHL prospects during many drafts. If you told me 15 years ago that the NHL leading scorer would be a NCAA prospect, I would find that very surprising. An AMerican also leads dmen in NHL scoring. Demko, Swayman, Oettinger, seems like Americans are starting to dominate the elite goalie scene as well. If Canada and Canadians want to stay atop the hockey world, we need to stay ahead in terms of development and enable more families to put their kids in hockey programs, not just the wealthy families.
Still, not trying to bash Brzust, he looks legit. Just cant help but feel he shouldnt be #1 in a league that has produced so many great NHL forwards. Time will tell., but as a Canucks fan Ill just try to enjoy this surprising resurgence in our prospect pool while our main club is surging as well. Good time to be a Canucks fan right now. Go Canucks Go!!!
