The moment we lost Johnny and Matty was time for a rebuild. But Brad had to saddle us with not one but two epically bad contracts before he dipped out.

I doubt Flames fans would tolerate a rebuild. The last time we had a major one back during the “Young Guns” phase ownership had to threaten to leave the city to get season ticket sales up.
I think Peter Maher has said that the 2004 cup run is what saved the franchise.
Maybe ownership has a “win now” philosophy because they know what would happen if we tried it again.

I think there is a possibility to rebuild/retool in the way Rangers and Dallas did. They both refused to suck for a long time and quite quickly reworked their roster. Rangers sucking for a few years and Dallas barely even dipping into basement. You just have to draft well.
Pretty impressed with how Dallas did it. They had what most people called out as the worts veteran contracts in Seguin and Benn. But kept both and drafter Hintz and Robertson.

Re-assess around christmas time. Small sample size. Lots can happen.
