[LeBrun] Paul Stastny has decided to retire after 17 NHL seasons. But I suspect it’s not the last we’ve seen of him in hockey.

Always found it strange that we booed Duchene for asking for a trade so that we could get something for him while Stastny wasn’t booed for telling Sakic he didn’t want to be traded at the deadline and would talk about re-signing in offseason and then bounced. I enjoyed his time here but glad he didn’t get a ring.

I loved Stastny when he was here. He was one of the new core players when I was finishing high school and getting really invested in hockey around the time Duchene was drafted so I have a soft spot for all those guys in the late 2000’s, regardless of what other peoples feelings towards them are.

Congrats to him on a long career. He was a bright spot during a rough time. I understood why the Avs didn’t trade him at the deadline. Was bummed when he went to St. Louis.

Landeskog has said in hindsight that he felt he was maybe named captain too early. I’ve always wondered if Stastny should have been the captain after Hejduk and how that maybe would have changed things at the end of his contract.
