The New York Islanders are 4-2-2 after eight games which puts them on pace for 102.5 points for the season. Today we look at some reasons for hope and some reasons for concern through eight games. We discuss the fast start of Kyle Palmieri and the entire Brock Nelson, Pierre Engvall and Palmieri line.
We also look at reasons for concern including the high volume of shots and quality scoring opportunities this team has allowed and the leads they given up as a result. The Islanders can’t afford to have their best player, Ilya Sarokin, worn down because he’s facing too many shots.
We also have the latest on the status of injured defenseman Scott Mayfield and our Weekly Farm Report on all things Bridgeport Islanders.
All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

-Concerns-can't hold leads. Give up way too many shots, fourth most chances against per game. Wahlstrom contributing nothing. Should go to ahl until he can. pp still at 16% rank 19th-not good enough. Only one line clicking. That probably wont continue with no other lines going. Lane line switching aint working. Looks lost during games-can't get isles to play a complete game. gpg ranks 26th at about 2.7 the norm.
-Hope-that isles can regain some of that shut down ability. Maybe they just can't do it anymore like they did during the stifling early trotz years. Rank 10th in ga. Bo got hot. Need barzal to get over ppg pace. Need another line to score, start scoring goals? Maybe lee/wahlstrom-unlikely-start scoring goals. Keep 3-6 together. Keep 25 off ice as much as possible. Dobson leads isles in pts. playing well even being paired with 25. Goalies have .910/.961 sv.%. Can that keep up with barrage of shots they face each game?
-Even on pace for 102 pts. right now isles are just outside playoff line. And have many road games (where isles really struggle to score) and long trips ahead. Once again will know by new year how isles stand. And if in playoff race then focus on who louzer trades another first/dufour player for.
-To conclude same old story. Isles go as far as goaltending takes them. And what would a third wheel that could actually score to pair with 13/14 do for isles? Even with bo hot two 4 g scorers and one with 3 aint enough. 21 wont remain at near ppg.
