3 Reasons for the Red Wings Hot Start (And Why It Might not Continue)

Apologies for the audio change at the end. Blame YT and copyright usage.

The Detroit Red Wings are off to an incredible start to the season, one of the best records in hockey. There are 3 big reasons why the Wings are off to such a hot start, but there are also reasons to wonder if the Wings can keep it up.

  1. I challenge you to make a video without any moneypuck stats. 😂 let’s see if you can do it.

  2. Husso also played 56 games last year – which when you look at those other guys on your list, if a huge difference compared to those other "bad" goalie numbers. He's probably going to play fewer games this year.

  3. Sure the offense will slow down but you failed to take into consideraton the team defense is much improved. They currently have a 2.11 xGA/60 which is 10th in the league. So as long as Husso and Reimer are just average, they have a good chance at winning a lot of games.

  4. This entire run can be sustainable if the following are met:
    1) No injuries to ANY of the main guys: Larkin, Cat, Raymond, Seider

    2) Husso actually stays under 3 GAA.

    That's it.

They seem to be a step above every team they played. They just seem so much faster. But, it could also be all the teams just haven't gotten going yet.
2 points is 2 points however so the more they can rack up now the less problems they will have later

  5. DeBrincat has topped 40 goals multiple times. He'll do so again. The question is can he get 50 goals, it's possible for sure. Husso doesn't play in a vacuum. The D corps is much better. Last year Lindstrom was playing. This season Maatta and Petry are rotating sitting out. Wings also have 3 good lines with a good checking line as well. High tide raises all ships. Husso will certainly benefit from better defense and overall talent just as he was hurt by lesser talent and worse D last year. Wings will absolutely be in the playoffs. Questio is: how high can they climb.

  6. Looking at it like a coach instead of a statistician one can make a strong counter-argument:

It's not individual statistics alone that make this year's team different. It's positioning, puck cycling and legit offensive pressure rather than games of keep-away. They actually do a good job of adjusting their strategy when games start to get away from them. This year's team is simply playing very different hockey than last year's squad. That's ultimately what has been producing such crazy statistics. It's a matter of whether the NHL starts to better cope with their adjustments, which is inevitable. Individual stats will definitely fall over time as this happens, but not as much as I think you're inclined to argue.

  7. One reason Husso is doing better is because of the D in front of him. I do believe Husso is a solid goalie.

  8. Husso was extremely overworked last year. Every Red Wings fan will tell you, he legit won us a lot more games than we should've last year. It looks like Reimer can be a legit backup and that will be huge for this team.

  9. I can only pray you're right, my girlfriend is a diehard redwings fan and shes really been shit talking my team lately 😹 Go Islanders!
