What about the ref's???? by the way they call some games, you would swear they have bets riding on the outcomes.
The mob made him an offer he couldn't refuse lol
This season was looking really as a Sens fan… then the season started. And that's why they call us sickos.
Re: Gambling
I believe that the next big scandal in the NHL (or any other sport) will be when an official is compromised by owing gambling debts, and will be coerced into determining the outcome of a game or series. I say this because the players and coaches are making so much money now (unlike in the days of the Black Sox in 1919) that they have too much to lose by getting caught and being banned from their sport. Officials, while making a good living these days, can still be baught (especially if they have been betting on sports other than the ones they officiate) that the risk of getting caught taking a bribe is less than it is for a player.
An official can more easily determne an outcome of a game than a player. In Game 8 of the '72 Summit Series, the Soviets managed to geta ringer ref put in, who called a series of penalties against Team Canada (remember J.P. Parise almost decapitating said ref with his stick after one particularly egeregious call), while ignoring similar infractions by the Soviet squad in the first period. While this was particularly blatent, who is to say that a more subitle method could happen (and may well have happened) today. The Timn Daughtery scandal in the NBA some years back should have been a wakeup call for all sports. (Then NBA Czar David Stern — who used to employ some guy named Betteman back in the day — once said that the senario of a compromised referee was the one thing that always kept him from getting a good night's sleep.)
The Pinto situation should put the fear of God into players, since it may well cost him dearly down the road financially, espeially if he manages to make a similar mistake down the road, costing him millions of dollars. It is unclear if officials (particularly in pro football, where most officials work for tehe NFL, CFL or CFB are part-timers, with regular day jobs, and are paid accordingly) would face a similar deterrent, unless it was made a federal crime leading to a loss of liberty (and the need for soap-on-a-rope).
This youtube video was sponsored by a Poker Ad, LOL! Every second commercial is a gambling ad during HNIC. Plus, Cabbie Richards gives betting odds at the 1st intermission. They normalized gambling, no shock to me.
Puh-leeeeease!! Elliotte knows a lot more privately than he's able to share here publicly! OK > Pinto claimed that someone else or others with shared access to his wagering account made third-party "proxy bets" on sporting events which COMMON SENSE tells anyone with a functioning brain were NHL GAMES since the CBA strictly prohibits hockey wagering BUT allows player wagering on all other pro sports! Also hard to believe this wagering activity wasn't over a significant period of time to result in such a massive "negotiated down" 41 game suspension > yet at no time was Pinto aware of these NHL "third-party proxy wagers" being made on his account > Riiiiiight!:) Sounds like someone either trying to get around the rules by having someone make bets for him OR someone who made the bets himself and then tried to desperately explain it away with this bullshit story which the NHL didn't at all buy > BUT > played along with to avoid the PR MEDIA NIGHTMARE of disclosing that one of their NHL players was betting on games! Cue the NHL's ridiculous press release today handing down a 41 game negotiated/non-appealed suspension to Pinto for "violations of the NHL's gambling rules", while conveniently for all parties involved, stating they "found no evidence he made wagers on any NHL game" > LOL
When you allow gambling in any sport, corruption is sure to follow. If Shane Pinto didn't place bets, he shouldn't be suspended especially if they can prove through IP address where the person accessed the account. Since when do betting companies release private information? It wreaks of hypocrisy.
The Americanization of the game brings with it corruption and degraded behaviour.
Dorion is the luckiest man alive. Pinto cleaned his mess… I mean, it's surreal
I don't think anyone likes being the person that used to make an example. The NHL has no foresight and is always reacting to whatever comes their way. They just make it up as they go.
That dude on the left, is is Viktor Tichonov? 🙂
Hope Pinto likes playing in Europe for the next 15 years
Sens suck who cares, lol.
was this boy gambling on his draw wins? crazy. imagine

Hockey Haiku Highlights #1
Best national pod. More Michael Russo though!
“I learned something I didn’t know” 🤯
"Something unusual" translates into, Shane was winning most of his bets and the betting agency ratted him out. Had Shane kept on losing, of course the betting agency would have said nothing. Had there been proof Shane was actively throwing games he probably would have been banned for life. The NHL instead of doing everything it could to make sure they were anti betting to ensure fans that the games were not rigged instead jumped into bed with the betting agents and sent a signal to the players that hey, we really dont mean what we say and careless about ensuring the outcomes are legit.
Shame on all of you. Hockey is a great game but to be associated with gambling makes me realize that it has been infiltrated by the same force that has been ruining our world!
It was a clear violation of the rules. In order for the league to survive and grow they need to have integrity.
