Honestly though, WTF is Nolan supposed to do? Let Friedman keep position, the puck, and skate away?
Friendman used an INCREDIBLY stupid and unfortunately common tactic of making himself the target by putting himself in a compromising situation relying on Nolan to not do anything, but that's not how hockey works. We see this exact same play dozens of times per season, and the result is always the same.
Objectively boarding, but the NHL is not serious about this type of play. Friedman EASILY could've positioned himself near the boards, but he chose not to, because he knows Nolan isn't allowed to do that, even though Nolan is applying a fair check, despite it being in the wrong spot.
IMO, boarding should be revised to either penalize both or neither players if the player with possession CHOOSES to put himself in danger to gain an advantage.
A similar situation with a different outcome is not keeping your head up in the neutral zone. You CAN keep your head down in the neutral zone, and you will gain a small puck control advantage, but you're putting yourself at risk for a massive LEGAL hit. And players don't get penalized for devastating CLEAN head-down hits, because it's the possessing player's choice to put himself in that bad situation. But for some reason boarding is considered different? 🤔🤔
That's a dive. Not a fan of either team but everything I've seen outta this kid in Pitt is pretty flamboyant lets say. Patrick held up. It's a fucking dive.

I'd say Suspension but I know the NHL doesn't care about player safety

Friedman had a bad night.

That should be a 5 minute major penalty For hitting from behind and a game misconduct
Man, the guy had a rough nigh
Friedman dove hockey has turn into a bitch sport cant wait for real hockey to come back when you had tough guys in the league
Crosby first one in there and does nothing.
boarding or checking from behind?

Great acting by Friedman.
He got his later.
Patrick 2, Friedman 0
If the boards hadn't gotten in the way, this wouldn't have been a penalty smh
Should of been a game misconduct. Officiating is a mess.. Dirty dangerous hit.
Really sold it with the head pump there at the end.
