Royals Roundup Episode #6 – Matthew Phillips



Joining us this week is one of the all-time greats from the Victoria Royals organization. Matthew Phillips joined us virtually from the midst of a road trip in the NHL with the Washington Capitals. The product of Calgary, AB., played for the Royals between 2015-2018 in which he suited up in 215 regular season games .Over that time, he accumulated 281 points which is the second most by any player in franchise history.

Following his time in Victoria, Phillips played five seasons in the Calgary Flames organization which saw him split time between the AHL (Stockton Heat & Calgary Wranglers) as well as three games for the Calgary Flames.

Now Phillips finds himself as a part of the Washington Capitals after signing as a UFA on July 2, 2023. Through four games this season, Phillips has recorded one goal and added two assists for three points including scoring his first NHL Goal against his former team.
