  1. I’m tired of the Slafkovsky apologists. The NHL isn’t a nursery school. If he isn’t ready send him to Laval. The excuses are juvenile.

  2. nobody hates slav just talk about sending him down to get playing time & confidence….. it doesn't matter what pick or round he was , what matters is he isnt nhl ready!!!!!!!!!

  3. Happy birthday, Mr. Poirier! Hope the Habs win for you tonight. As for the Slavvy haters, they need to find a short pier while taking a long walk. I find the 19 year old (yes, he's a teenager!!!) has improved a lot since last season: his vision, staying on his feet during puck battles, and making some really great passes. If not for two snake-bitten linemates, Slavvy would have at least 6 or 7 assists.

  4. I believe swapping Anderson with a non-straight line player would greatly improve the second line. I feel once Dvorak returns, the line-up could look something like :

    Harvey-Pinard – Suzuki – Caufield
    Newhook – Monahan – Slafkovsky
    Pearson – Dvorak – Gallagher
    Pezzetta – Evans – Anderson

(With the third line currently playing well, I almost don't want to split it up. However, Monahan and Slafkovsky have shown chemistry in the past, so it's worth a shot. Could even try this line-up.

    Harvey-Pinard – Suzuki – Caufield
    Newhook – Dvorak – Anderson
    Pearson – Monahan – Slafkovsky
Pezzetta – Evans – Gallagher (Hurts to put gally on the 4th line, but it could work)

Great content as always, and happy belated birthday, Jesse!

  5. Slafkovsky's development is part of the Kent Hughes master plan. We have to trust there's some wisdom in his shiny dome.

  6. Nobody hates Slafkovsky, a young man who works very hard to improve himself. The problem is that he's not ready to play in the NHL: when he was younger he had success relying on the fact that he was bigger and stronger than the others, had a good shot and he skated quickly for a player of his size. Now he plays against strong players who are more solid than him, he often gets beaten physically, and is not very mean for a player of his size. He easily loses control of the puck. He can make good passes and he works hard to Improve himself but his hockey sense is poor and he doesn't know where to position himself on the ice. The game often moves too fast for him and he constantly tries to get rid of the puck rather than making plays and he doesn't use his shot. Martin Saint-Louis is patient, works to give him confidence and gives him many chances but he doesn't seem able to seize them yet. He is still young at only 19 years old, we must not forget that, and we should be patient but his current level of play for a first overall pick is frankly worrying. Sending him back to Laval is risky: the team is currently playing very poorly and what will happen if he doesn't play better there?

  7. The reason slaf isnt in the A bc the things slaf needs to improve on can only be taught in the N where hes got less time to do things… got to trust the development

  8. From what I have read about Salary cap, if a team moves a player on ELC to the minors then upon recall to the NHL that players bonuses have to count against the Cap. In this case Slaf has $3.4M worth of potential performance bonuses, meaning that his current cap hit of $950,000 will become $4.45M upon recall. This might explain why moving Slaf to the minors does not seem to be in the Habs managements plans.
I think Slaf's low production is another symptom of the Dach season ending injury. Dach looked like he was quite likely about to have a breakout season, and Slaf was looking confident playing with Dach at Center. But if Cap considerations are stopping the Habs Management from sending Slaf to that losing team in the minors, then I hope that the return of Dvo will mean Slaf is paired with Monahan on the 2nd line…
