Robby Fabbri is ramping it up in practice, hoping to play sometime next week. If he does return, that could present a problem. The Red Wings have gotten out to a strong start without him, and Joe Veleno has earned his promotion to the 3rd line. So where does Robby Fabbri slot in? How does he shake up the lines? Timo to Wings, who would we have to give up?
I get it. Joe Veleno has earned the role he is in, but the best blueprint for this roster is to roll 4 lines that are capable of being sound defensively and can bury their chances. That means Compher at 2C, Copp at 3C, and Veleno at 4C. One of their best periods of the season was the 1st period in New Jersey where they outshot them 14-6 and hit 2 goal posts. They didn’t score, but they were coming in waves with all 4 lines on the attack shift after shift after shift and the only answers New Jersey had to slow it down was puck luck of 2 goal posts and Vitek Vanecek making key saves. That’s the type of game Detroit needs to play to be successful. Success is not having a Compher and Copp matchup shutdown 2nd line and a non scoring energy 4th line centered by Austin Czarnik, Christian Fischer, Robby Fabbri, or Michael Rasmussen. Success is 4 lines that can defend, push an offensive pace, and bury their chances.
New lines:
DeBrincat Larkin Raymond
Copp Compher Sprong
Fabbri Veleno Perron
Rasmussen Kostin Fischer
Walman Seider
Maatta Ghostisbehere
Chariot Petry/Holl
Husso
Reimer
I sure wouldn't lose any sleep over Fabbri. He'll be hurt again within 2 weeks.
Lines should be
Fabbri Compher Rass
Copp Veleno Sprong
Wrap him in bubble wrap I’d say ..
Chances are he'll only be back for a game or two given his history.
Perron has been on the 2nd line 2 games he was on the 2nd line against Boston
Put Fabbri on the wing between Ras and Veleno. Perron doesn't have the wheels, put him with Copp who doesn't skate as well, but he's pretty wise like Perron, and go with 3 C's.
He'd make a great health(ish) scratch
The Czar> Fabbs
Imma be in THE CAESAR Nov. 4th boys
Get him one game in and then trade him ASAP!!! He's only going to get hurt within the next 2 – 5 games. "China-doll"
Love Robbie but not the health issues. He was a stop gap player to plug obvious holes while we rebuilt… times up. Healthy scratch
Q: What Should the Red Wings Do When Robby Fabbri Returns?
A: Fill the infinite void of defense he creates.
Don't make it complicated guys. We're not going to have our two 200 foot centers on one line all year. And yes, Veleno may very well go back to the 4th line. It's been a few games of him scoring a few goals. It's worth seeing if he can keep producing on the 4th line, which is only getting 5 minutes (which I'm sure is an exaggeration) on nights there were a lot of special teams. And Perron may look meh to start the season, but we gotta stop acting like a guy suddenly gets too old over one summer, he's the same slow skater he was last year. Don't think he's a 4th liner yet.
Raymond-Larkin-DeBrincat
Fabbri/Berggren-Compher-Rasmussen
Perron-Copp-Sprong
Kostin-Veleno-Fischer
That's what I want the Wings to work towards. But honestly, there's still several roster tweaks to make. Carrying a 13th forward with require dropping a goalie or defenseman, but I want Lyon to get some time. Edvinsson should be here, but we have to figure out how to lose at least one D, and that only makes him the 7th. Really, this is the main problem facing the Wings. The sooner they get the roster finalized, the better.
let's be honest, Fabbs likely is done. 10 games, then back out. Good hockey player, but he can't stay healthy. 114/246 games played, the last 3 full seasons in Detroit.
Gimme the hype boys!!!
We're stuck with Fabbri. That ridiculous contract makes him untradable. By far, the worst contract Stevie gave out since he arrived. 4m x 3 for 2 bad knees. Unbelievable
Trade that piece of glass
