After the Adam Johnson accident should players be open to wearing protective gear for their necks

Hockey player Adam Johnson tragically passed away after a freak accident taking a skate to his neck. After this Washington Capitals player TJ Oshie asked his hockey apparel company to make a cut resistant turtle neck to protect a players neck that he’s gonna try wearing in future games and hopefully it catches on. What do you guys think about protective cut resistant turtle necks for players?

  1. Well, the English and Scottish ice hockey associations have made wearing neck guards mandatory from 1st January 2024. It is to make sure there is a supply from hockey equipment manufacturers before the deadline and a load of hockey shops in the uk have run out of neck guards.

  2. I don’t have a problem with neck guards. But I would suggest putting it on the chest protectors as well or at least having it able to connect to the chest projector.

  3. In all seriousness you shouldn't use the word accident unless you're willing to watch it for yourself.

    Incident might be more neutral.

As for me, I have seen it. He couldn't have brought his skate that high and propelled himself toward Johnson accidentally. It was a clear dropkick.

  4. That was no accident….the dude side kicked him. Been watching hockey for 34 years and never saw anything like that
