“**Another hot start for the Avs**

It didn’t take long for Colorado’s offense to move on Wednesday.

First-year Avalanche forward Ross Colton scored the opening goal just 8:53 into the team’s game against the St. Louis Blues, which the Avs won 4-1. Colton sprinted past his defender and had plenty of space to put one behind St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington.

A few minutes later, Colorado’s lead doubled.

The Avalanche drew a tripping call, and Mikko Rantanen scored on the ensuing power play. Rantanen received a pass from Cale Makar and found plenty of space, firing a shot past Binnington.

St. Louis finally scored with two minutes left in the second period to close the gap, but the Avs had the next two from Artturi Lehkonen and Bowen Byram.”
