With Backstrom stepping away and going to LTIR…perhaps GMBM will go after him.

No way – don’t trade picks or prospects for anyone older. Lindholm is borderline at 28 but the price would be too high. We’re actually managing this slow roster transition fairly well so far and shouldn’t screw it up.

Over the next two years we have a TON of big contracts coming off the books at the same time the cap is going up — we should make our big moves through free agency, not trades.

In the meantime, keep developing our young guys and keep/add as many draft picks as possible.

With guys like Strome, Sonny, and even McMichael emerging as decent-to-good starters, we could actually be in a pretty good spot post-Ovie if we play the prospect and free agency games right.

McMichael is already in the spot. Protas and Leonard are natural Centers. Lapierre is going to need a roster spot at some point.

More than anything, Washington isn’t going to trade for a 29 year old. We’re looking for players that are under 24. We’re focusing on where this team will be in 3 seasons.

After the success of Strome and Sandin, you can expect Mac to try and duplicate those moves more than something like going after a 29yr old UFA

28 is way too old for the re-tool we have going on.

  4. Really the only player worth trading on our roster is Kuzy and that is about it. I don’t want to trade away any of our prospects since we are doing fairly decent so far.

  5. Please no. He’s not going to make or break it for us getting into playoffs or not. Don’t trade away picks. Give the slots to the young guys and get them some reps.

The last thing this team needs is another bloated contract
