A response from Domi could have elevated his fan base calling on an extension (even if it’s based on popularity of his father alone), but nothing from him. I’m sure Bert is playing hurt and our cap is the reason he’s not sitting. Either way, they’re both ghosts of their former reputations.

  2. They are players who play well when they have long leashes, when healthy. (I’m not convinced Bertuzzi is close to 100%).

Keefe is the opposite of a coach that gives a long leash. He has his system, which works very well when you are developed in it and work your way up through it, but time and time again has proven it neuters tenured veterans.

We see this year after year with not only our off season signings, but also our free agency additions. There is a reading players like O’Reilly and Schenn didn’t want to come back, why Spezza immediately left with Dubas.

Their role is to be the next set of vets whose career takes a massive step back under Sheldon Keefe.

Sit them. Bring up some hungry marlies that will give 100%. These two are fucking useless. Reeves and klinberg too

Everyone’s mad at these guys and Reaves but let’s be real… they’re both potentially one year mercenaries. Reaves has 3 years but he’s playing 6 minutes a night.

If you want a change in mindset jt starts and ends with the big boys.

That said, the leafs are 10 games into the season at .600 pts percentage and have looked like shit for around half the games. The seasons success is going to be decided in April and beyond not by the 3rd of November.

I was so hoping that the two Domi to Knies goals were going to give Domi what he needed to be good again…

Last night I realized why Domi’s game is hitting my brain weird. He plays like my pre-tournament stress dreams where I can’t take a pass or I keep bobbling it, or my skates are dull, or everything goes to my skates….It’s sad.

    Bertuzzi I’m less surprised by.

  6. Mattewsmustache34

Bertuzzi laughing on the bench at Marchand and jt and willy staring at there feet is the exact reason why the leafs will never make it anywhere in the playoffs

  7. Seaman_34

Cap hit place holders. Next year when we don’t sign them we’ll all think omg we got so much cap space. lol idk I’m frustrated with this team right now but it’s 10 games in and idk what to think, I thought we be not as good as last year but at least be more aggressive and we haven’t been so idk

  8. backstreets_93

They had all summer to think about it! They have to figure out what Domi and Bertuzzi do before they come out here

  9. They do exactly what theyve always done – it’s not their fault too many people made assumptions about their play instead of googling how they actually do play

  10. WhoJustShat

they collect 8.5 million of the salary cap without passing go

  11. hockeyholloway89

I was genuinely excited at these signings. They’ve been a massive let down. I have no idea why I care 1000x more about this team than the guys who get millions to be on it.

  12. pojebana-malpa

Domi has played on 25 teams already before he turned 25. That shouldve been all we needed to know before signing him.

  13. CanadianWampa

Brad Treliving’s summer was so underwhelming lol. Overpay for a couple of 4th liners, add some players with an unfounded reputation of grit, and fail to sign an extension to the one player on this team that’s been consistent to start the season.

  14. LowHangingLight

I thought it was interesting to hear how damning Keefe’s assessment of Bertuzzi was the other night. Basically said he had one job and failed to do it. Curious to see what transpires moving forward, but I’m getting Nick Ritchie vibes.

  15. TayOs1998

I’m willing to give them a couple of months.

  16. Acrobatic_Law5598

Steve dangle said everything right about these two in his LFR video today.

  17. crowonder

This is not a player issue. This is a GM issue. Brad Treliving should be slinging pizza for his dad in some shithole small town. His acquisitions are so terrible it defies logic.

The simple decision to change the team and culture would have been to replace Keefe. He chose to ignore that option.

By extension, Shannihan should be fired immediately. He made a knee-jerk decision based on one interview by Dubas. The theory was we weren’t going to make these type of emotional decisions, yet here we are.

Treliving made the Leafs materially worse.

Shanahan was responsible for that decision.

Both should be fired as of today.

Oh, put Reeves on wavers too.

Your one job was to put an end to the type of nonsense that happened to Lily last night.

    A goon who doesn’t goon.

    What a joke.

  18. CMDRShepardN7

Look, they already told you. They deal with the goddamn customers so the engineers don’t have to. They have people skills. They are good at dealing with people, can’t you understand that?? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!??!?

  19. Justa_NonReader

I missed the game, did anyone do _anything at all_ after this to Marchand? Was it just your dude fell play continued and no scrum at all even after it was blown dead?

  20. GoodGodI5uck

Yea players should carry the responsibility when not performing but wtf is this system they are playing in? I was down voted in a r/hockey game thread when I said this coach is fucking clueless when his star players aren’t performing. He has no system and gets out coached almost against every other coach. He gets carried by the star players but when they aren’t performing this team looks awful. Bruh he sent our softest line out after Timothy got hit in the boards against the Marchand line. He has no grit himself as a coach and no matter how many players we sign, leafs will always be a soft team. A part of me was hoping for a super slow start so Keefe can be fired.

  21. pivotalpawn

Bertuzzi needs a skating coach plain and simple, so many times he loses an edge and is popping up from his knees with no one anywhere near him.

Domi should be on the 2nd line with Marner and JT, Knies should be up with Matthews and Willy. Keefe needs to try a few different combos to light some fires under their asses it just feels stagnant and easy to game plan against.

  22. torontoker13

Domi does basically what kerfoot did which is buzz all around the open ice nowhere near the puck. Bert seems either injured or bedazzled by the spotlight. Has a deer in the headlights look when the puck does finally find his stick.
I know it’s the unpopular opinion but the leafs ownership needs to institute a team rule/law and make 1st round picks off limits for trading at the deadline.
The can’t afford to miss out on young affordable influxes of talent especially in exchange for a couple months of false hope

  23. Something_IDGAF

Domi either doesn’t skate or falls when he tries

  24. Peckerhead321

Why do you think Domi has been on 19 teams?

  25. howsshegoin

treliving has been an unmitigated disaster

imagine adding erik karlsson to this core

    instead we have reaves
