Oilers Fans, What Year is it?

Nhl highlights today 2023 – The stars vs oilers game was one of the most fun of the night, and the sam gagner goals in his return to the edmonton oilers was such a moment. As for the oilers highlights itself, even with connor mcdavid back, evander kane goal scoring back up and a healthy lineup, they still lost to the dallas stars – But sam gagner definitely stole the show. 1. I try and get Jake Allen from the habs with 3 goalies, and give Allen one last true shot at the cup. He is ON FIRE this year.

  2. Edmonton and Toronto have been plagued with the same issue. Defense and goal tending have been sub par. And then every playoffs we watch the teams with great goaltending and stud defenseman make it far. And then every off season, neither team picks up good defensemen or different goaltending

  3. Extremely controversial:
Trade McDavid and Draisaitl for a top 10 defensive core and top 10 goaltender, and add a few players for a top 10 offense.

  4. Good for Gagner, never had a bad thing to say about the guy. But if he's the Oilers' best player on any night, don't think about playoffs in Oil Country. Think about Macklin Celebrini instead.

  5. as and oilers fan the one move im doing is trading mcdaivd or draisaitl because the pieces we get from them will allow us to have better defense while alos having a pretty good offense still

  6. I don't know if there's a trade that could be made right now that would help the team

The only definite move I would make is get rid of Ceci. Let Desharnais and Broberg play full time with 12 forwards. Ceci isn't consistent enough, and trading him can free up cap room for Holland to make some sort of acquisition later in the season.

Would it help the team overall? I don't know, because I don't know who they play with Nurse full time other than Bouchard (and we've seen how up and down that can be)

Skinner and Campbell have had rough games but the majority of the goals this season so far has been on the defense. We can't expect them to save every cross crease one-timer

  7. One move? Gotta be the Tendy I think moving soup and a first and second and go for a someone who is on a contract year with a save% of 908 at the very least

  8. If I were Ken Holland I’d send McDavid to Detroit in exchange for Andrew Copp (I’m a Wings fan)

  9. This might be a stupid idea from me, but I know sacrificing the core forward for better defence and goaltending would cause this team to collapse. What I’m thinking instead is to completely rework your defensive line, trade for some old veteran looking to retire on a team, than hire some promising rookies through talent scouting or whatever, then it’s just a matter of building the defensive line from the ground up with your senior defensive man teaching the rookies. I know that would take some seasons to develop, but I just think it’s a bit better than stripping players from the offensive line to make up for defensive, which will upset David which is your star player. As for goaltending, idk, I think it’s not terrible and with a stronger defensive line it takes pressure off the goalie making them more effective overall, so it’s really about gutting that defensive line for some real talent or talent you can train.

  10. Been an Oilers fan since they came into the league circa 1979. There is no possible greater need, right now, than goaltending. Go ahead, tell me otherwise. Defence? Yeah, sure. Everything else from scoring, PP, PK etc is covered. Holland has to get the goaltender that will give this current iteration of the Oilers eg McDavid, Draisaitl the best chance to win. Skinner/Campbell are not it. Holland has to do whatever it takes to bring in a Hellebucyk in.

  11. Canadian teams need to stop expecting McDavid and Matthew’s somehow pull a Gretzky and just carry their teams to a cup. The game hasn’t been played like that since Gretzky retired. Those days are done. You don’t win with one really elite line. You win cups with 3-4 COMPLETE lines and defensive pairings. It’s a team game now. Not a Gretzky game. Even he knows that. He’s said it a million times and people still try to say “oh if he played in todays game he’d be just as good” as if that makes any logical sense to anyone who thinks about it for a second. Gretzky was a fluke. Sure there will be others, but you don’t bet your league on trying to find 500 other Wayne Gretzkys. You win it by finding out what strategies and weaknesses he was able to exploit to be so dominant, and then you build an entire fuckin team of guys who don’t make those mistakes and get 2 good scoring lines out there and bam. You destroy the Gretzky strategy entirely. He was dominant because everyone else fuckin sucked. Players don’t suck that way anymore. They are all pushing their performance to the absolute max. The skill gap is much much much smaller now than it ever has been. And it’s a lot harder to “skill up” than it ever has been because everyone’s a freak of nature in pro sports now. Pro sports aren’t dominated by gretskys or elways anymore. They’re dominated by putting an entire team of the most advanced athletes in the world now. You don’t need one Gretzky. You need a full roster of em.

  12. Everyone's saying goalie, but you could have Brodeur and Roy be your tandem and it wouldn't matter if you don't know how to play defense. Oilers are completely lost in their own zone. They need Torts behind the bench.
