wow really this sub had me convinced it was Keefe inexplicably keeping the entire team “on a leash”
Well, that’s a damning indictment of the team…
Marchand literally putting shambles in everyone’s brain
This team never changes. I don’t think you can teach or force people to care about their teammates. Too many players worrying about a pay day instead of winning as a team.
Some of u guys really thought Keefe tells the guys to play soft and get bitched around. This isn’t his fault. When your team is led by the softest captain in the league Tavares, Marner Matthews and Nylander this is inevitable
so you mentioned it to the team and they came out after intermission and responded hey sheldon
People who think Keefe makes his players soft are crazy. He was a shithead in his playing days. I’m sure he loves that stuff.
This whole organization needs to be fired, from top to bottom.
The least that should’ve happened after Marchand put Liljegren out of the game was that after every whistle a crowd of Leafs forms around Marchand and gets in his face. Start with face washes and low level shit like that and eventually work yourself to the point where someone drops the gloves. But the guy has to know he can’t get away with that stuff. Instead, nothing happened. I’ve coached kids in competitive hockey who are tougher than this bunch and know how to stand up for a teammate.
All the idiots and clowns on here saying Keefe is the one teaching this. This sub is an absolute dumpster fire and I thought last season was bad.
Now they’re going to go out and over react to a clean hit and take a penalty.
So uhh Keefe is kinda dumb for saying this eh?
He had 2 intermissions to get this point across so either he didn’t bother trying to get his point across or the team didn’t bother listening to him in either intermission.
Both options are bad looks.
Then why does it keep happening? Honestly seems like he’s lost the room, Coaches have an expiration date with a team and it certainly seems like he’s reached his.
Keefe was known for being a total shithead on the ice, its on our players
Keefe also said,”We came back in the hockey game, that’s a response in and of itself.”
You guys still don’t get it because of the PR he’s doing today to deflect attention off him. That’s what he’s coached into this team, beat them on the scoreboard instead of responding physically and being penalized. He’s more worried about his regular season point % than anything else.
The cycle continues. The players respond with a physical game and a fight after today. Keefe reins them back in. He convinces them playing soft outweighs taking penalties, they’re bullied endlessly by other teams, finally something bad happens again, then he pretends he hasn’t leashed them.
Every single year without fail.
And you guys still eat it up year after year after year after year.
Keefe was a piece of shit to play against in his hockey career, I’m sure he was just as mad as us fans despite 90% of this sub probably not believing that
It’s still coaching. He can like it or dislike it, but he isn’t getting the team to do what he wants them to do. If you hate then bench that entire line for not stepping up.
You shouldn’t have to force your team to stick up for one another. When a guy like Marchand takes out one of your players then proceeds to chirp your bench that should be enough for the team to get pissed and make the rest of his night a living hell. The fact that didn’t happen tells me everything I already knew about this team.
This week has made me miss Bunting. He was frustrating but man he would always stick up for his teammates
Says the guy who Kept Reaves, whose only strength is beating people to a pulp, on the bench
The Leafs will always be a soulless corporate “safe” team afraid to ruffle the feathers of investors
If only they had a leader who could coach them in situations like this, alas.
For everyone saying Keefe should have addressed it in intermissions, I want to believe he had faith that surely his guys would step up at some point and then they just…….never did. Giving them the benefit of the doubt and an opportunity for redemption is almost always the right call as a coach, I’m sure he’s disgusted after there was no pushback ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Everyone did nothing. If he “hated everything about it” then why didn’t he challenge his squad on the bench or in the room between periods. They all abdicated responsibility for this. Having said that, this is nothing new.
Keefe and Reaves saying words. We need to see an immediate and PERMANENT change in this team. I don’t need to see a bit of push back for 10-20 games and then a transition back into cowardice. I don’t want to ever see this team cowed again, that was fucking embarrassing.
All he should have to do is tap a guy on the shoulder or give them a look. This should already be a plan in place when these things happen. This is on the coach 💯% and noone else. They instill the culture with what they say to their players. Keefe is a fool imo. Not an NHL coach.
Imagine sorting out your team’s toughness via the media. Just imagine…
