Nhl highlights today 2023 – On hockey night in canada , we got predators vs oilers in the afternoon, and it was the same somber story for the edmonton oilers highlights and their fans. Connor mcdavid and leon draisaitl don’t look like themselves, but even casual nhl hockey viewers will tell you the team’s problems go MUCH deeper than that. Obviously, eyes will look to the goaltending tandem of stuart skinner and jack campbell , and the defence spearheaded by darnell nurse and his contract which is richer than cale makar. Both Edmonton and Toronto spending all that money on offence but not enough on defence and goaltending!
I’m so glad the Wings got rid of Holland and brought Stevie Y back. I’m sorry Oilers, he isn’t going to fix it.
Markstrom with 2M retained and Hanifin to Oilers in exchange for Campbelly, Bouchard, this years 1st no protection, and next years second and next years 4th. Bouchard and Campbell should both be better behind CGY’s D and, if not, Wolf is waiting and CGY is likely starting a rebuild anyway. Markstrom and Hanifin make the Oilers D and Goaltending significantly better right now which is what they need.

You know maybe….. reality is just setting in the fact that everyone on the oliers suck ass and that Leon and Connor maybe aren't as good as we all thought….. I'm just saying. For supposedly 2 of the top players in the league, they are not playing that good, and there are a bunch of players playing MILES better than them.
McDavid is sub 100% and the team has no 5on5 play left. Says a lot.

Nobody should be shocked. Last year they had BAD DEFENSE. They had BAD GOALTENDING. but they at least could score and teams did EVERYTHING they could to not commit penalties so avoid the PP. But not this year. They did NOTHING in the off season to address these issues. Now their offense is down and their PP is down to NHL average. Put this together and this is what you get. No balance. No scoring from the top guys which would not be enough at this pt anyway. Giving up bad goals when the defense fails, time after time, and you won't win. The Oilers won't catch Vegas, and at this rate, they probably won't catch the Ducks either. It's going to be a long season for a team that stated it was the Cup or Bust. We can see what they chose.
McDavid will be leaving the Oilers when his contract is done
Ken Holland shoudl've been fired the day he signed Jack Camplbel to that 5×5 contract. Everyone including the players know that Skinner and Soup will never and have never been nothing more then backup goaltenders in the league. Two backup goaltenders fighting for the first place spot on an NHL team just doesn't work. The defense needs work, but goaltending needs change.

Jack Campbell is not an NHL goalie. His numbers with the Leafs were inflated by pretty underrated team defense and an over reliance on athleticism. His skating and hockey IQ are not NHL level.
'there is something on the inside' is a hot take. It reminds me of the Canucks last year – good Team on Paper and in the previous season but Bad outcome

McDavid and Drais are tired of saving the day. The goalies are not the problem. The defense needs to reduce the quality of scoring chances. Defense is the most glaring issue.
