  1. Agreed. We don’t have enough info to understand whether or not what he did was serious. If he was giving inside info or even putting himself into debt with the wrong people, that’s enough to potentially compromise the game.

That puts the NHL liable to all sorts of legal issues and can ruin the influx of gambling sponsorships and dollars into the league.

There is something to be said though about the bombardment of advertising and inevitable jump in problem gambling. Players are people and will get caught in that wave.

  2. Not a big fan of all the gambling stuff, having said that some of these leagues had to know once they opened the door some things with players were going to happen. Nobody knows he did but I wonder if the leagues go a bit overboard. What do you do if you have an owner with a chain of hotels with a connection to Draft Kings or Fan Duel? Another thing that bugs me is players say they don't gamble on their sport and the leagues investigate and say they didn't but do you really think that's true? Read about Hunter Dekkers and how he used his parents to place bets for him.

  3. They said he wasnt gambling on hockey games, so what on earth warranted a suspension for half a season if gambling is allowed and he wasnt gambling on hockey? I think thats why people are mad, it doesnt add up and as usual the nhl has zero transparancy

  4. The Sports gambler was such a cliche degenerate in older movies. The sports gambler character was always at his lowest and was letting gambling addiction ruin his life in every way.
Crazy how people are embracing sports gambling like this these days likes its not totally cringe.
Its never good to judge others, but being a young sports gambler is not a good look or a quality I value in my peers.

  5. Thank you for your discussions on gambling. I think there is a double standard with gambling/alcohol vs drugs, which I never understood why. They both can destroy lives while at the same time responsible users can keep it together. I just don't think we should be advertising alcohol or gambling with a ban on marijuana advertisements. And I guess for the record I don't think any of the 3 should be advertised.

  6. It would be cool if a "cat tree" manufacturer sponsored your channel

  7. I'm wondering if he bet on SPORTS Awards [either MVP type bets or Prop Betting]. Not actually games but specific props.

  8. The problem was likely discovered last year, thus not having signed a contract.

  9. Pinto should hire a private investigators to see if any of the league front office gambles on sports, as they too can influence games…say with lame suspensions. If any of them has wagered so much as a dollar on sports bets of any kind, they need to be fired or suspended without pay, for at least as long as Pinto is out, or even longer for the hypocrisy.

  10. I think the issue with gambling penalties is how excessive they are. He misses half a season, while a player who deals out a concussion with a dirty hit might only get 1 game and a fine. The punishments always seemed to not make sense, and with all the gambling ads, it makes the NHL seem even more hypocritical than before.

  11. I think the gambling sites just want you to try their app. All of them do pretty much the same thing, so they just want to take market share.

In the US, we get some gambling ads, but a ton of car & home insurance ads.

  12. NHLPA could develop program to help players deal with betting issues? maybe even provide a way for players to bet legally and ethically?

  13. Well I agree NHL players should not be allowed to place bets on NHL games, then you shouldn’t allow gambling logos placed on the players helmet or jersey and you shouldn’t advertise gambling.
