President and General Manager of the Toronto Maples Leafs Brian Burke talks about encouraging a more tolerant, welcoming atmosphere in the NHL for gay hockey players. Brian’s message was inspired by his son, Brendan, a former manager for his Miami University hockey team. In February 2010, Brendan was killed in a car accident at the age of 21.

Lol then all of those chirps wouldnt even make a dent in the guy
We miss you in Anaheim!
@iN31L im just saying i think its absolutely pathetic that people are still threatened by other people's sexual preference or whatever.
@jjpeterson1 and your love toy dion
@americanhalfwit – wow, your username is very appropriate
Overall, I think what Brain Burke's doing is wonderful, but that still doesn't give him the right to shame players for not coming out because he thinks it would be easier than they think it would be. I don't think it was intentional, but still. I mean, it's easy for him to say, he's not the one who has to do it. There are so many reasons why a person might not want to come out and they shouldn't be shamed for it.
one down
No wonder the NHL is in last place. All these sports are begging for gay athletes. So disgusting.
he did. Currently first in the league thank you very much!
He had a kid before he dudes he isnt gay
Wow, so full of love for him right now. Great message!
I have been gay all my life. I also admittedly have a bit of confusion maybe because I'm inexperienced even at the age of 40. There is a reason for that. I am attracted to hockey players who wouldn't be!?, but the main thing is I love them. I made up my mind early on that if I don't love somebody I'm not gonna throw myself down the toilet for them! I would hope most NHLers tolerate gays now if not that is truly sad and reprehensible.
I admire Brian Burke for this! he was and is a good parent. I am taking from a parent's perspective who's child is gay! we accepted coming out with opened hearts, minds and arms because it's our child. how can anybody not love their kids for this non-issue. there more things out there to worry about than this. like their health and happiness. Good for Brian Burke to act on it and make something that can help athletes in the long run!
What defines someone as gay? Is it not sexual orientation? Why does anyone Need to openly express their sexual orientation, particularly individuals in the public eye? Is that not sexualizing a sport watched by many different age groups? Do you think its right to sexualize people of any age group? Should we be teaching children that sex is the defining aspect of an individual? What then becomes the purpose of the individual, and what then becomes the purpose of sex? To categorize individuals? But then does not these categories create vast differences, and in order to gain acceptance into more categories will not individuals become an amalgamation of all categories, so that the use of these categories becomes pointless and really just a way to force others to be a part of those categories otherwise they will suffer the fate of being labeled something they may or may not be, or to feel isolated and as a pariah? And if we are constantly defining ourselves by category after category after subcategory, are we not creating conditions of separation as opposed to understanding? It is mind boggling to me that no one questions the narrative being pushed by agencies: the media/celebrities/those in the limelight and in $positions$ of control who are known advocates of publishing acts for the public to watch of: deception, aggression, hypersexualization, financial stagnation, warmongering, murder, and various other acts that logic dictates are not healthy for a peaceful and emotively balanced society. Do you think any of these things are healthy? Would you trust your child to be educated by people who push the publication of these acts to the public in order to make $$$$, and if the telecommunications networks, the banking industries, the worldwide financial centers that Have a monopoly of control of the distribution of these worthless commodities, fiat and even digital currency, that we allow ourselves to become dependent on to live, is this really about financial gain, or is it more likely about setting up parameters of control for YOU the public to be held down by? These are questions you should ask when someone such as mr burke, who was educated at an elite school, Harvard, full of current and future high society lawmakers, and whose income most likely falls into the range of high privelage comes out and says these things?
We need to be all about acceptance!!
I have NO issue with gay hockey players, BUT, I don`t want to be in the same dressing room with one because of the nudity issue. Nobody would expect women to allow a straight male into their dressing room, so straight guys shouldn`t have a gay guy in the dressing room – at least when they are nude. Perhaps have a 10 minute session to shower and then let the gay player in or accommodate them respectfully in some way, but people are ignoring the reality of sexual impulses all in the name of political correctness.
People are not born gay. It is a lifestyle. You choose as you grow older. It is a form of a depraved mind.
What about an all gay team š
