  1. good insights vid, as always ! just one edit needed … at 4:50 you said Slafkovsky instead of Anderson, and I can see right away how some "well wishers" will seize that opportunity to sh$t on him again despite such a difference seen when playing with actually good players on top line …

  2. Don't get why Anderson gets protected by most habs fans, it's obvious that he'll never live up to his 5.5 per contract and we are stuck with him

  3. People were always right to throw Drouin under the bus and never blame Anderson for his bad performance 🤦🏻‍♂️ ridiculous

  4. I took a quick stroll through Natural Stat Trick and checked out how well Anderson & Slafkovsky did with the various centres on the Habs. (Note: this is at 5v5 only)

    With Newhook: 37.62 xGF% (48:39)
    Newhook + Slafkovsky: 49.06% (55:16)
    Newhook + Anderson: 32.06% (17:25)

    With Monahan: 14.55% (2:12)
    Monahan + Slafkovsky: 55.18% (6:33)
    Anderson + Monahan: 81.87% (12:25)

    With Suzuki: (null set) (0:52)
    Suzuki + Slafkovsky: 54.04 (17:27)
    Suzuki + Anderson: 57.66 (43:48)

    With Dach: 100.0% (0:10)
    Dach+Slafkovsky: 67.18% (13:52)
    Dach + Anderson: 70.78% (1:48)

    With Evans: 0.00 (2:13)
    Evans + Slafkovsky: 40.39 (7:55)
    Evans + Anderson: 15.52 (7:12)

    With Pezzetta: [null set] 0:00
    Pezzetta + Slafkovsky: 73.85 (1:45)
    Pezzetta + Anderson: 0.00 (2:31)

If we can disregard any groupings with under 10 minutes as having too small a sample size to be useful (I would rather disregard any under 30:00, but it’s way too early in the season for even that standard), we can see that this line (Slafkovsky-Newhook-Anderson) is probably the worst-performing deployment of the three players available. Both wingers performed better when they were deployed in a top-6 position than when they were played on a 3rd line position. We can see that Newhook + Slafkovsky has performed decently (within spitting distance of 50% xGF%), with a relatively good sample size of over 40 minutes, and Anderson has shown well with Suzuki in significant minutes (over 57% xGF% in about 44 minutes), which would lead me to suspect that the optimal deployment would be to keep Newhook + Slafkovsky together and to move Anderson upwards to either 1RW or to deploy him with Monahan, which had amazing performance in a small sample size.

So, in short, there’s a reason why a number of teams pursued Anderson at the last trade deadline, and his overall underlying numbers suggest that he’s still highly effective when deployed properly. The tweet is bonkers.

PS: in case anyone asks, Suzuki’s numbers at 5v5 go up with Anderson; as do his all-strengths numbers (56.91% with vs 52.20% without). With those, we’re talking about sample sizes of 83 and 146 minutes, respectively.

  5. Okay I don't like Anderson but this is a tiny sample size from a point in time when anderson is playing bad. Of course the numbers are bad. When you are playing bad your numbers are going to be bad. What are his numbers from last year?

  6. For context newhook can't play centre, he can't playmake, is always out of position, and can't win a faceoff. It's comparable to say, nylander playing centre just 100x worse

  7. In the playoffs Anderson will be a stud. All these people judging him have a total of zero nhl , ahl or any other pro league games! The math nerds are extremely annoying! Come playoff time, every playoff team would love to have him!

  8. Slavskosky is a bust. It was a bad pick by the habs. Who cares if he scored in a losing cause. He’s zero impact player.
