What would you even trade for hanifin? Hes what 6 '1 and like 190? Or 200 lbs. Sure he hits but he isnt much different than mccabe. Zadorov is interesting though hes giant and adds physicality to the right.
I feelnthats whats lacking more than people realize. Physicality on the right side is incredibly lacking, and it didnt get better with the addition of klingberg.
Its what brodie liljigren and klingberg right now? Who is dishing out hits on the right side? Reilly will lay one out on the left mccabe definitely will and even gio has been more physical this year.
I wouldn't take Hana right now at half retained. I is absolute garbage. We wouod need to find out about his health to even think about it.
I want Zadorov…Hanifin is like adding another of what we already have.

Zadorov isnt worth Lilly.
Hanafin would be nice but not economically viable and the assets to get him would set us back too much for a UFA.
Ive been saying all along we just have to get to the end of JTs contract and he resigns around 4ish freeing up 6 mill along with the cap raises. Thats when our true window opens imho. Minten Cowan and other youth will be on the roster at league min contracts making the cap easier to manage.

Leafs just signed Bellows to the Marlies, so somebody like Robertson could be in a deal. Maybe Robertson, Timmons and a third round pick for Hanafin.
Since Hanifin wants to go back to the states the Leafs should get him as a rental on the cheap !!! Robertson and a late pick 🤔 who knows if he resigns In Toronto .he's not resigning In Calgary .keep our assets and get Hanifin Go Leafs Go

If Klingberg isn't performing come playoff time, you put Gio on third pairing and move Brodie back to RD. Leafs are in a real tough spot with anyone with cap relief having a M-NTC or NTC contracts. Liljegren, Knies, Sammy, Reaves, Holmberg, Timmons and Gregor the only players on the roster without one. None of these guys would remove enough cap too make any kind of top 2 pairing RD. So the leafs might have to wait till next year to add on defense.

Rather look at Jan Rutta from San Jose instead of Zadorov or Hanifin – comes at a cheaper AAV and with playoff pedigree to boot!
Why do people include Liligren in any deal? Probably 2nd best defenceman on team and gets the holl treatment. And how many people got that wrong?
i am a leaf fan at 7pm and flames fan at 9pm. i have watched hanafin for years. actually wanted the leafs to draft him instead of marner(obvious mistake) BUT he is awesome. would be great for the leafs. problem is he is a LD and a LD only. so that would mean one of McCabe and or GIO would be removed. Zadorov the same thing. these would be great moves, but ultimately i think the leafs need a top paring RD to play with Reilly. this is a more impressing need and Hanafin and or Zadorov do not fit this billl.
