Prospect Avenue Ep. 10: Kulich keeps cookin’ as Savoie heads back to Buffalo

A well-rested Kris Baker is ready to talk about Jiri Kulich.

He’s on a serious scoring tear that could be difficult for the Sabres to ignore. Now that the Brandon Biro and Lukas Rousek recalls have been made, Jiri has stepped into the on-deck circle to bring his Cookin’ with Kulich show to Buffalo for the first time, perhaps sooner rather than later.

Also bandied about this week:

• With Matthew Savoie’s conditioning loan complete, it was his mature game that really stood out
• Olivier Nadeau gets his first professional goal with the help of the most unlikely of centermen
• On the eve of the Five Nations Tournament in Czechia, Noah Ostlund is a lock for the World Junior Championship. And while Anton Wahlberg has done enough to get in on his own merit, there are other situations that are certainly helping his cause.
• Topias Leinonen returned to the net, and the clock is ticking on his very short window if he wants to cement his spot on Finland’s World Junior roster
• Seemed peculiar at the time, but Prokhor Poltapov was simply given a rest on Sunday
• Matteo Costantini vaults into the upper class of Sabres prospects point-getters
• Ethan Miedema gets off the schneid

Thanks as always for supporting the channel!

  1. Thanks for another solid pod, Kris. I'm curious to maybe get your opinion on this; I feel organizationally there is a major issue in regards to defensive structure and giving up high danger chances. Do you think that's because they might lack a good depth of defensive, stay at home type guys or do you think it has more to do with the ideology the coaching staff seems to have with, "make mistakes to learn from mistakes."

Would be interested to get your input on that. Thanks again.

  2. Kulich will never be able to make Sabres, he won’t play 4th line so that means they would have to get rid of Skinner, Tuch, Peterka, Quinn, Greenway(coaches Son), Benson, or one of three centers Tage, Cozens and Casey. He will have to wait 3-4 seasons. High skill prospects never play 4th line, they rather keep him in the AHL playing 20 minutes until age 24. Benson and Savioe are hurt every other week, that’s his only hope or trade or buy out Skinner after this year.

  3. When Quinn is healthy, they still need another top-9 winger to solidify the supplemental scoring from deeper in the lineup. Until Quinn is healthy, they need two.

  4. Biro, Savioe, Benson always hurt. Biro has been hurt all the time for Amerks and hurt again…Benson 2 times hurt already, Savioe hurt camp last year, this year and hurt again recently. These guys are made of glass. Samuelson is also never able to play a full season, made of China
