The Buffalo Sabres’ value has risen to $900 million, an increase of 42% over this time last year, according to the NHL franchise valuations released this week by sports business publication Sportico.

Even with the increase, the Sabres fell two spots to No. 30 in the NHL. Only the Columbus Blue Jackets ($880 million) and the Arizona Coyotes ($675 million) are worth less.

The value of an average NHL team is $1.31 billion, a 29% increase from last year. The Toronto Maple Leafs remain the most valuable team in the league at $2.65 billion, followed by the New York Rangers at $2.45 billion, the Montreal Canadiens at $2.27 billion and the Chicago Blackhawks ($1.84 billion).

“The big gains at the bottom of the table were about establishing a new get-in price or ‘stick value’ for NHL franchises,” Sportico’s Kurt Badenhauser told The News. “The sale in Ottawa really set a new benchmark for lower revenue clubs with most bankers seeing $900 million or so as a new entry price for the league with the Coyotes excluded because of their unique situation (of not having an arena).

The Pegulas purchased the Sabres for $189 million in 2011.
