[Sekeres] Asked former #Canucks GM Jim Benning if he wanted to tell his side of ‘17 draft story: “There is no my side of the story. It was a collaborative effort from the GM, Assistant GM, Head Scout, Crossover and European scouts to make that pick. I’m happy the team is playing well.”

He was a bad GM, that’s all that needs to be said. No need to pile on.

I can’t think of many things I’d care less about than a Jim Benning interview by Matt Sekeres.

  3. PaperMoonShine

Im certain it *was* a collaborative effort by everyone….*After* Linden put the foot down and forced said collaboration.

Also, big props to our local Hypocrite Sekeres for giving Benning a voice after being his staunchest critic. 100% motivated by propagating the drama instead of letting the story settle into place.

Can we pleeeeease just drop this story. We got the right player, someone was right someone was wrong. Let’s move on and focus on the club now.

“Would you like to tell your side of the story? ”

    “Not to you.”

  6. Zorbane

That’s his nice way of telling Sekeres to fuck off

“*Hmmm… the Canucks are doing so well this season but not enough drama… How about we stir some shit?*”

  8. andoesq

Hmm no this can’t be right, Trevor Linden just said he had to have a bare knuckle brawl with Benning to pry Glass from his cold dead hands

Sekeres be fishing for clicks so fucking bad. Attention seeking bullshit behaviour

Sekeres is such a twat. When I think of toxic media BS he is the first name that comes to mind. Just a shameless drama monger pining for relevance.

Benning was terrible, but he’s history and we’re winning. He was also muzzled by the AquilIdiots.

  12. crap4you

If the media really wanted answers, they should call Aquilini and ask him.

Of course it’s SssSsSSaSSSssEKERES 🐍 trying to undermine 16.

  14. Collaboration

Linden: “Okay, while Jim is in the shitter shitting, let’s collaborate on picking the best player!”

    Collaborators: “Fuck yeah!”

    Benning: “Whad I’d miss?”

    Linden: “We collaborated!”

    Benning: “Whad dat?”

Linden: “It’s like getting your shit together to come to a consensus …”

Benning: “Man! You should have seen the collaboration I just made in there! Whew — maybe go down the hall for a couple days!”

    Linden: “Thanks Jim,”

I’ve been a Canucks fan for long enough, to see that the sentiments the general fanbase will have will greatly mirror that of the media that presents it to them on a tantalizing platter. JB was an average GM. The current core that we have (Petey, Hughes, Boeser, Demko and Miller) were all drafted or acquired under JBs administration, which involved many others’ input. There were failures along the way and the team also struggled mightily during those 8 years. Ultimately, he had to go and we needed a fresh start. But given that we didn’t have much draft luck, we should be thankful that the entire administration was able to assemble a pretty decent roster that’s finally seeing the value come to fruition. We should just stop perpetuating the toxicity and try to have a positive attitude here.

It has been ~~1~~ 0 days since an incident

There are disagreements all the time between people who care about what they do. TL was the president and ultimately he had the final say. Maybe he didn’t like how JB was so stubborn – and was tired of having to go to whatever lengths he had to in order to “do the right thing” in his opinion. So he left. It wasn’t enjoyable for him anymore. No one will ever really know. People are right and wrong all the time…

I love Linden as a player and as a representative of the team generally but I’m really confused as to what his motivation was with his interview, specifically with the timing.

Benning doesn’t really refute anything in this statement, at risk of getting flamed I actually think Benning deserves credit for acknowledging mistakes made in 2016 and clearly the goal was to have a more collaborative process.

That process, as outlined by Benning’s quote, resulted in a better collaboration process that leads to picking Elias.

I really don’t know why Linden felt now was a time to go on and give that interview, I’ve listened to it a couple times and even him tossing out “Jim would have probably preferred a different player” strikes me as very unnecessary and straight up petty.

Wonder if we’ll ever hear Benning do radio hits, similar to how we get interviews from Nonis/Gillis from time to time.
