    A) each loss gets us closer to a higher pick.

    B) The Jets will find a way to blow it. They always do.

This shit sucks, but I think Saturday night will be better. They’re injured and coming off a long road trip. Really annoyed at how anemic our offense has become though, we need goals. I’d much rather win 6-5 than continue to lose by multiple goals.

    Also, fuck the refs.

Don’t ever scratch Tommer again. You know what? Fuck that, he should be on the first line with Fil

That was not entertaining. I’m hoping the shit show that is Oilers v Sharks will be

Did Cole Smith play any after his 17 minute timeout?

feel like this is the offensive our defense has been in years

This is a young team and road trips against hot teams can be hard for them. It definitely feels like Trotz gave this team a long leash here and Bruno isn’t afraid to take all of it. You can tell he’s still giving players opportunities and doing a lot of work behind the scenes to dial in this team. There’s no pressure for immediate results and you can tell Bruno doesn’t really care if we win or lose at this point in time – it’s about building something bigger.

Big thought on the Penalty Kill:

I think they fixed the penalty kill – they played the first kill pretty loose and then tightened it up later – to pretty good results. The only GA was the 3v5. So here’s what I saw. Feel free to correct or add on:

The Preds were playing a zone + chase kill. You’d set up in a box shape surrounding the slot. But then one of our forwards would be tasked with aggressively chasing the puck carrier. I believe the goal was to pressure a turnover and then break out into a potential short handed breakaway. The strategy is high risk, high reward. If you can pull it off and get a reputation for scoring shorties, other teams will spend much more of their power play respecting it and it leads to less opportunities against.

Unfortunately, what was happening is we’d send like Smith or ROR fucking off into the corner and the rest of the kill would be left in a 3v4 scenario. All the puck carrier has to do is get the puck away from the forechecker and lanes are way more open for the PP team. Plus you’re constantly resetting shape and it left players confused and out of position.

Bruno basically snapped back into a more traditional kill after right before that 5v3. IMO a more traditional kill is the team sets up in a zone box surrounding the slot. You rotate out towards the puck to block shots or shut down lanes but generally you hold a box shape. Oddly, we created more scoring chances once we reverted to a more traditional kill. I think on one kill we had 2-3 breakouts.

We’ll see if Bruno sticks with it but I bet he does for the short term future. It definitely seemed like Smith on ice for a lot of GA but I don’t think it’s his fault. Seems to be a system/coaching issue.

THIS goal in the Seattle game is a perfect illustration. Watch Trenin pursue the SK player basically behind the net. That bunches all the Preds players in the low slot, creating a lot of traffic for Saros. Seattle passes up to the point, Sissons pursues the pass and then chases the puck carrier towards the corner. Trenin slides over to cover. Now you basically have 4 preds players in a line, on one side of the ice. [All the Kraken have to do is pass to the incredibly wide open defender, who takes a hot second to line up his shot, and buries it.](https://imgur.com/a/3MPFM06)
