  1. New Jersey has Blackwood already why would they pick him at 7. He won’t be available at 18 or 20 picks.

  2. As a Devils fan the idea of Askarov at 7 has really grown on me. He’s made his way into my top 3 for that pick alongside holtz and Sanderson. With how much the goaltending has grown in the division, it doesn’t hurt to grab the guy that has this much skill. I get that Blackwood was great down the stretch last season but it doesn’t hurt to have another guy competing with him

  3. Even though I'm a Senators fan I don't see Ottawa (nor New Jersey) take him. I think Carolina or Minnesota will take him Carolina is one solid goalie shy of being a true contender and Minnesota has aging goalies

  4. As a devils fan I love Blackwood, and the idea of getting a good scoring forward at 7. But with three first round picks and getting some good forward prospects via trade last year. The biggest need I would say is defenseman, I’d be happy to get Sanderson at 7 but getting a potential generational goalie is something I’ll always be for. Jersey thought they had a lock at goalie 4 years ago with Schneider and that went south fast. You can also look at San Jose with Martin Jones, dude looked like a stud and now not so much. The 18th and 20th picks can still be good forwards or defenseman and jersey has a lot of cap space to sign someone as well.

  5. The Sens need to draft a top center at 3rd and a top defenceman (in addition to Chabot) at 5th. They couldn't win last season because of lack of goal production, not poor goaltending.

  6. I hope we take him at 5 like you said in Defense we are stacked in offense we are good to but I think that high end goalie is what we need to win the cup in a few years

  7. Sens fan here. I'd be thrilled with Askarov at 5. Totally down with swinging for the fences on him.
If not then please draft Raymond or Sanderson…and please NO to Rossi or Drysdale (both overrated)

  8. No and No. Ottawa won't take a goalie with two top five picks this year. For new Jersey they already have their number one goalie in Blackwood.

  9. Not a fan of taking goalies high in the draft. Main benefit of drafting a top skater over a goalie is getting an excellent player at an entry level price. Goalies have usually burned through entry level contracts before ever playing an NHL game, so teams don't usually benefit from their entry level deal.
Even when they are determined to finally be NHL ready, teams need to keep a fairly high priced veteran around as a mentor or in case the young goalie is not quite ready for prime time.
There is simply no place to shelter a young goalie like you can with a forward or defenceman.

  10. I like the Devils taking Askarov. They could probably package 18 and 20 to move down for a forward.

  11. I don’t think Ottawa will go for askerov I think they will weaponize there cap space and get a goalie for a bit of over pay.Holtby,Lundvst,Murray?

  12. as the islanders goal chant says:
    YES YES YES
thats just my opinion i would want askarov to be a senator

  13. Devils fan here! NJ's biggest need is a sniper, becuase we have way too many playmakers without having a finisher. This is why our fanbase is DYING for Holtz. But even if we don't draft a pure sniper, just having a complete player like Raymond, Perfetti, Quinn, or Rossi would be great. Even a defensemen would be a better pick because having Drysdale or Sanderson next to Butcher or Smith would a lethal pairing. But we can draft Schneider or Guhle for that role at 18th, so again, there's no reason to not draft a forward.

If we draft Askarov that high over one of the deepest pools of forwards in years, it'd be such a waste because it would inevitably create another Luongo/Schneider situation, forcing one of them to get traded, when drafting a forward or even a defensemen would be a long term asset for a Cup run. You're not taking into account that they're both going to be future Vezina candidates. One of them being the backup will hinder their growth. Blackwood just needs a backup, and we can draft one in the later rounds, and target one in the off-season.
