Instigating calls are pathetic.
Another losing period. This team fucking blows
We’re the only team in the NHL getting those instigator penalties.
There are a lot of cowards in the world who will gladly sacrifice team respect, dignity, cohesiveness, and bond for 1 goal.
I see all of you
I want to like Domi and he’s winning me over. 8 points, winning shoot out goal last night and a fight. Works well with others. He’s trending the right way.
Two shots in a period?
Well, it could be worse than that!
I’m thinking the math doesn’t work if you have to score at least 5 goals to win, but you only get two shots in the period.
This game is nowhere near over and I’m not worried, but I’d gladly take an L because of instigator penalties if it means we’re developing a backbone.
2 shots, don’t care. We’re only down a goal and they’re fucking standing up for each other.
Can’t wait for the 2nd period where we will see a leaf make a big hit then have to fight about it and for Van to not get an instigator.

Refs compare a team’s reputation against their play when deciding whether to make a call. A team like boston never gets penalized because they have to cross a line that makes the refs think “damn, that was dirty even for the bruins”.
Leafs honestly need to burn a season by playing dirty, racking up PIMs, and changing their reputation.
I’m honestly shocked the chuck’s roadhouse business model doesn’t break some consumer protection law or something
The only thing I’m worried about rest of the game is the D’s impossible task of clearing in front of the net and Samsonov challenging task of reading shots from the point. Other than those two massive weaknesses I think we might make a game outta this.
Its crazy how I have seen a fight after a hit happen about 100 times this year and not once was an extra penalty given. Yet the refs call the Leafs twice in one period SMH.
Two fights defending teammates in the first really goes to show how useless Reaves is. He’s not needed.
There’s been 116 fighting majors so far this year, and only 14 instigator penalties, two happened tonight already. That’s BS.
We barely even caught a break yesterday and now we’re right back to it smfh
The moment they finally show some pushback – it’s met with the weirdest, smokiest penalty in the rulebook. Do you think they are calling the extra 2 on any Bruin player? Not a fucking chance.
It’s gonna be a long night and I just hope to see Quinn Hughes or JT Miller put on their fucking ass.
WhY dOnT tHeY sTiCk uP FoR eAcHoThEr??
Probably because we immediately get these bullshit penalties.
Is 2 shots in one period good?
I’m glad we’re the first team to get two different players to get called for an instigator this year. Love the response, and I’d rather the leafs learn how to deal with this now than when the rules change in February.
To recap: the Leafs are getting absolutely dominated by a much better team than them, took 2 foolish instigator penalties after two clean plays which led to 2 powerplay goals against and some of the meathead fans in this sub think that’s …. good?
This doesn’t make teams “scared” of you or some shit. The Canucks are laughing because the Leafs are handing them the game. It’s idiotic.
Gio one wasn’t an instigator
Gloves come off at the EXACT same time… bullshit instigator call on Gio
Joshua was a Leafs prospect, yeah?
Tim Horton: Has longstanding Leafs records
The 2023-24 Leafs: “And we took that personally”
So, be passionate and stand up for your teammates organically but also leave a healthy pause? Really can’t win, can they?
Brahhhh Joshua had his gloves off first
Good to hear Bieksa say that the Leafs can’t even stick up for a teammate correctly. I’m sure he’s entirely unbiased on this broadcast tonight.
Idk Bieska if they take too long they’ll think twice and won’t fight
I’m totally fine with that period. We controlled the puck 5-v-5. All of Vancouvers chances were from PPs, and I have no problem with those instigators. In the long run of the season, a team that fights for each other will pay off.
The duality of this sub is crazy
I’m surprised that this game even started at 7 pm instead of 10 pm. Vancouverites get so pissy that when we come to town the games start at their 4 pm
The Leafs get shit on by media for not sticking up for their guys, so when the team finally decides to do so, we get penalized. Good job NHL
Wtf is Bieksa talking about? Maybe Domi was an instigator but it wasn’t like he jumped him. Gio’s fight was actually pretty consensual. Fucking clown.
I guarantee you all the whiners on Tampa don’t ever get called for the instigator.
Media: “Leafs are soft and don’t stick up for each other.”
*Leafs stick up for each other*
Media: “You’re doing it wrong.”
If the hits were in any way questionable, then I’d agree with the responses. But giving teams free power-plays every time they lay a legal, solid open ice hit is stupid. Especially when your PK sucks as hard as the Leafs does. You’re better off to throw some big hits yourself.
On the one hand, it’s nice to actually see them stick up for each other. On the other, it’s frustrating to see the instigator calls hurting us. At least we’re still in the game, that said.
I don’t know what the winning formula with that is. Maybe as a team, we just have to keep doing it, until it becomes normalised. Seems to be what other teams have done.
This team needs that. Very proud of the boys dropping the mits. Who cares about the goals, need more of that on the team. We’re playing well 5v5, keep at it and we can easily win this.
GLG
Fighting is pointless if they score goals.
Goals win games, not fights.
Personally, I wish management would lean into the high skill of the team. Those whole “let’s be tough and skillful” thing isn’t working at all.
Can’t believe she didn’t mention how she scored a billion goals there
Edit: Harvard drop is a bonus point
You gotta fight the guy after that Robertson hit. With his injury history the Leafs can’t let that go.
Bieska is right that Gio and Domi probably could have had those fights without instigators. He’s wrong that the second hit was clean. He’s wrong that Keefe won’t be happy about this, as it isn’t going to be two fights, two PKs, and 2 goals against every night. Just tonight. Still happy it happened.
