I really hate this decision for the main fact because, its nepotism within the higher ranks of the organization. Schwartz will 100% not be removed any time soon due to that but i wish he would.
Why take accountability for poor roster decisions when you can just blame the coach? Leafs fan here, and the fact that Tree doesn’t pay attention to defence scares me
Holland is a joke of a GM. Handed first pick after first pick and did nothing else. A 18 yo with one NHL24 Franchise Mode under his belt could do a better job
Holland had one job to do this offseason that would help the team right now. Defence and goaltending. Now we oilers fans weren’t expecting an all start player but maybe a bottom 6 D guy and a good back up goalie that can make some saves. That’s all Holland had to do could have used some draft picks maybe trade Cece to make some cap room it could have been done especially if you sweeten the deal with draft picks. But he gave us Brown and that’s nice and all but Oilers fans we’re really hoping for a goalie. And now his lack of being a GM got the coach fired.
Woodcroft instituted a new "box+1" defensive structure instead of the man-on-man play that they are used to. Is it coincidence that his new structure threw off the players and his pride in refusing to backtrack to their winning ways resulted in his firing?
I could understand if they had a coach waiting in the Wings but bringing up an AHL coach sounds like you’re packing it in for the season. The coach to go after is Gallant, he is hands down the best available. And there is no reason to keep Holland any longer either.
It isn’t Woodcroft that is the problem. The problem is with Ken Holland who does not understand the mentality of the new generation of hockey players simply because he’s too old and too detached from today’s world of hockey. The new generation of players does not and never will become the copy of former Oilers. It’s time to let go of “the old” and embrace “the new.” Holland needs to retire. That would be move #1.
Woodcroft screwed up not playing Camobell in game 5 and 6 agaibst Vegas. He made poor in-game adjustments and lost to Nashville 5-2, Vancouver 6-2 (and 8-1) then San Jose 3-2 which was the worst game Edmonton has played since the 6-0 Florida loss before Woodcroft was hired in Jan 2022.

Woodcroft will succeed at peewee hockey for sure
Woodcroft was fired after the sharks game
No idea why Ken pulled the trigger after a well played 60 minutes game Seattle but he had to go
no idea what to expect from the oil going forward
I don’t think this was Kenny’s idea.
Holland is trying to compete Chiarelli for worst EDM GM ever…
Ken holland: “ah shit! This doesn’t look good. Quick! Fetch the scapegoat!”
can't wait to see you cover that Cuylle review
Dutch!!! Noooo!

Massive massive massive fail firing Woodcroft.
Got to agree. Terrible move, the team is a complete shit show right now. They named McDavids agent president of hockey operations.
Such a stupid move, our terrible start to isn’t Woody’s fault. Wish him all the best, he’s gonna have a great career in the NHL.

I hope you find a new team to coach soon.
