No 1. Who was playing who? No 2. Snow birds are moving down there for the winter No 3. College kids need something to go to. No 4. College hockey is awesome to watch live. No 5. I know the ppl who slap the name on that area.

Is OP Gary Bettman? Lol

It is actually insane that NHL games are regularly being played in an arena that small. It must be awesome as a fan though.
DotAppropriate8152
If by “hot” you mean draws in more than 2000 people well then no. Our WHL team has higher attendance than that and they kinda suck right now.
mudamuckinjedi
5,000 ain’t a market, most of those probably wondered in any way lol
likesexonlycheaper
Put all those people in on a regular sized arena and that shit will look empty.
SuperSafe2019
Yeah, seems nuts when there is 4000 people there
xannydimes
Unfortunately outside of the Cardinals, Arizona is in it’s most successful sports era in awhile, basketball and even baseball will always beat out hockey in that market
They don’t know how good they have it, the Sun Devils are always electric and if nothing else the Coyotes have some of the coolest branding in the history of sports

Gary is that you?

It’s a fucking college arena lmao

No. Lol. There’s maybe 5,000 people there. College and AHL teams have bigger arenas/better crowds

If it was a hockey market…they would be playing at an NHL arena

Looks like a Jr B game in a small town.

I will always maintain that Arizona has always been a hockey market. People dunk on the attendance and hurr durr tEh dEsErT, but the fact of.the matter is that this team has been irrelevant for their entire existence. They’ve missed the playoffs 10 of the last 11 years dating back to the 2011 run, and 7 of 10 years before that. They’ve seen the second round once in 26 years. Add in all the off-ice instability, with little certainty each April that they’d be back in October, and *no shit* this team has a tiny fanbase.
Funny how Ottawa languished for a generation and we high-five each other for the fans “sending a message”, then turn around and dunk on Arizona for refusing to support garbage hockey for the last quarter century. Fans have always turned up when the team has been competitive.

It just seems that way when all 1100 people cheer at the same time.

It’s becoming a college hockey town (everyone knows this is ASU, right)?
PiousDemon
It already is. Always has been.
The problem with the Coyotes isn’t caused by the fans.
1. Ownership sucks 2. They built an arena far away from the people who love going. This was the first fuck up. 3. GM made some horrible moves.
Fans just got tired of driving 2 hours each way to watch a team where ownership wasn’t doing what they should to provide a winning franchise.
When the Yotes were good and in the playoffs early on, that arena was packed and everyone wore white. It was an absolutely crazy atmosphere.

High school hockey games get louder pops. Arizona does not deserve hockey anymore. Tried. Failed. Move on. It’s embarrassing to play out of a college rink

It’s one of the most rapidly growing markets in the country. The potential is most definitely there.
