I'm sitting ootside listening to what these puck shootin' maple suckers are talkin' aboot.
So binnington was the starter for Boston's minor team (ahl) and swaymann was their backup and Boston tried to fade for him, the blues said no and he went on and won Lord stanley
Story is cute but not all true…the year St. louis didn't have their own AHL team they were still sending guys to AHL Chicago for that season…Vegas had their goaltenders established in Chicago and binnington would've been number 3 on the depth chart…so rather than not play much etc, st louis wanted to send him to the ECHL and then worked out a deal with Boston/Providence. San Antonio was still affiliated with another NHL team at that point. The NEXT year they moved their team to San Antonio and binnington played in San Antonio that year then St. Louis.
