  1. Angelo Mathews is an international cricketer so i think his duty was to look after his kit before batting after all this is a world cup match as a cricket fan we can expect I think you can expect minimum common sense from a player like Angelo he is a Pro player so we can expect this kind of common sense from him. And this is within the laws of ICC i think this is acceptable to appeal if there is anything wrong. point
1 Angelo wasted time in getting to The pech point
2 angelo wasted time with his helmet issue so what i am trying to say is Shakib was right from his point

  2. If you dont know how to participate in an international sport following their policies and rules. You may just be more suitable for gully cricket.

  3. Sportsmanship and Bangladesh don't even go together. Cricket isn't gentlemen's sports anymore cuz a low class team like Bangladesh started playing it😅 Shakib is a loser, such a disgraceful team, I really miss those good old days where cricket was actually played by gentlemen

  4. Cricket called as gentlemen game, if you want win game somehow it's not good for game, I think Shakib become most hated one in the cricket with that.

  5. You guys had many chances to withdraw your appeal during the Sydney test 2008. Following the rules is still better than cheating.

  6. There’s two separate discussions: 1. was Matthews actually timed out as per the rules, and 2. Should Shakib have appealed ?

Whatever you think about #1, I totally support Shakib appealing. It’s a mode of dismissal available to you, take it. It’s the umpire’s job to interpret the rules correctly.

  7. I'm stumped. I can't believe these men are criticising a player for appealing within the rules of the game. Seriously? What level of entitlement is that, to say a player should not have appealed or upheld an appeal that is perfectly in line with the rules. It was up to the umpires to make the decision. I just find this attack on the Pakistani captain absolutely despicable.

  8. 1) He took is sweet time walking to the crease
    2) He then took his sweet time chatting with the runner when umpire remined him to take guard
    3) His strap broke, he didn't bother saying anything to the umpire but signalled to dug out
    4) Dug out brought out a helmet too small
    According to CricInfo
CHECK YOUR GEAR BEFORE COMING TO CREASE

  9. No one did anything wrong here. Everything was according to the rules. But it would've been better had the umpire used his discretion and permitted Mathews to bat.
If Shakib's appeal is against the spirit of cricket then Mathews not checking his equiptment is very unprofessional against spirit of any sport or activity. So no one was wrong but the umpires should've showed some courage.

  10. Player safety comes first. You can get hit on the head in myriads of ways.
If Matthews has come to the crease without a helmet and then called for it you can say waste of time.

Though he knew a spinner is bowling yet he came wearing a helmet. He was conscious of his safety. He should have been allowed to change his helmet. Common sense should have prevailed.

Pathetic on the part of Shakib. He should have withdrawn the appeal.

  11. Imo, the question was not on helmet strap issue, but Angelo Matthews was so slow and lethargic in getting it fixed.
He was just standing with bad body language like in no hurry, and wasting more time on field.
He only sprung into action when umpires approached him with timeout decision. There too he wasted 5-6 more minutes in haggling with umpires rather than getting ready quickly.
It was a justified timed-out decision by umpire and will set an example for incoming batsman to not take things lightly when coming in to bat.

  12. Yes Australians ( and not India srilanka or any corrupt country in the subcontinent) are most qualified to talk about sportsmanship. Many people in subcontinent don't even understand what it is all about

  13. The Umpires are at fault. They have a duty to ensure that then laws of the game and the spirit of the law in maintained. If the umpires are unsure they should check if Mathews was within the two minutes.

  14. Shakib was within rights to appeal. Many players wouldn’t have, but can’t find fault with Shakib if he did. It is according to the rules.
Spirit of cricket can be questioned, but then everyone will have a different take on it. Sometimes, the rules can’t be framed to have a fair decision in all situations. The timeout rule probably was intended so that the incoming batsman takes guard in a reasonable amount of time. Without this rule, who knows, some batsmen may finish a meal, change clothes, take a shower, wear the necessary gear etc at the fall of a wicket and then take to the crease. I may have exaggerated here but you get the point. We can all tell that Angelo Mathews was there on time and did not intend to be late. But yet he was not ready within 2 minutes- whatever happened was unfortunate. Shakib should have withdrawn his appeal but he was also within his rights to not to. We can’t criticize him for it. He got a gift and he chose to accept it. Personally I feel those who would have withdrawn the appeal would have upheld the spirit of the game, but those who will not are not necessarily bad ambassadors or should get branded as cheats.
I feel for Angelo Mathews. However I feel his reaction was not befitting a sportsman either. He was hard done with the rules but he was little negligent too. He was out based on the rules but he created quite a scene. Called the whole thing disgraceful. Refused to shake hands. Criticized the fourth umpire. Like Harsha Bhogle said, he has no defense.

  15. I just remembering the ugliest umpiring by Srilankans PC Coorey and KT Francies during the India tour on Srilanka in the late 90's. Robin Sing was given run-out, even the umpire was not looking at the pitch and KT francis changed the fate of other two matches.
