A – The team knows he’ll be out a few more weeks and needs the cap relief to make a potential move happen
or
B – They have no idea how long he’s going to be out but know it won’t be any time soon.

I’m not advocating for punishing the result instead of the action, but it’s crazy that you get just 2 games for a hit that will probably cost the other guy 22 games.
2 games is evidently not enough to deter guys from taking each other’s heads off.
