The New York Islanders Losing Streak Hits 7 as they Lose in a Shootout In Seattle

The New York Islanders played better but not well enough to win. The losing streak reached seven games with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Seattle Kraken.

We discuss what the team did well including Casey Cizikas’ milestone goal, Anders Lee finally getting back in the goal column and the power play striking twice but the penalty kill let them down big time in this game.

We also discuss Lane Lambert’s job security and we preview Saturday’s game against the Calgary Flames.

All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. Hi gil. Do i win a prize for nearly predicting this outcome? I said eberle would win it in ot. Had game won in so until 26 scored as isles fall again-this time in so.
-Blow third period lead again. CHECK.
    -Get outshot again. CHECK.
-pk still a mess. gives up two more goals.
-Can't win for losing getting yet another bettman loser point.
And don't look now-isle pk now ranks 29th. At least pp showing some life on trip with two pp goals.
Isle ga has dropped to 16th. Isle days of complete shut down hockey are over.
Still can't get two consistent lines scoring. This is such an uneven team. 0-4-3 last seven not good enough. Isles not gaining any ground in east. At least pens lost.
Flames are 3 pts. out in west. Similar to isles with 14 pts. nyi -13. Calgary -14 for season. Can't say any game is a W for isles given their multitude of problems/weaknesses no identifiable strength outside of goal.

  2. Can someone explain how Lame put Dobson in the shootout before Engvall, Fashing or Holstrom. BasicallyLame told the fans tonight that he has no one that can score on breakaways, they should just forfeit when it gets to the shootout. Ownership should have Lou and Lame on the carpet 1st thing in the am and rip them new ones and hopefully they’ve been looking for a new GM and coach. Then pull the trigger next week. The goal for Anders going. He took another stupid penalty which was completely predictable and they scored while he was in his office.

  3. Coaching 100% Look at Vancouver look at the Oilers changed up with a new coach, there’s really not much at all going to happen player wise, basically the islanders best bet is to get younger prospects in camp and start giving them a chance, the team was built to this point and it’s obviously not working, extremely frustrated Islander fan

  4. It's TIME. Coaching and on ice changes needed. Time to turn the corner and allow the younger guys to play and get experience. Anders must go to a winning team that needs that kind of player. Allow the 4th line wingers to play for winner. Layne n Lou need to be changed. Time to cut your loses and allow the younger guys n younger coaches to play n coach. Man this team is such a kick in the gut.

  5. When a team can NEVER Play a full 60 mins of good inspired hockey. That ALWAYS has 20-40 of UNINSPIRED hockey. The coach and captain need to be changed. Sorry but that is focus and mental/emotional lapses from leadership on down.

  6. Hi Gil, all I have to say is thanks for watching this slop for me. I have better things to do then watch this garbage. On the other had, your show allows me to keep tabs without the suffering. Thanks for taking the hit! 😁. NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNTIL THEY GET A NEW GM. Replacing Lane won’t make a difference. This team will go nowhere.

  7. Gil, I’m not sure if it really matters who’s coaching this team. I mean senile Lou is just going to give his boy Maclean the job anyway. Maybe he gets crazy and brings up Bridgeports coach another x devil. I don’t know what any coach can do with this bunch when it’s been painfully obvious for years we don’t have enough elite talent. I see 0-4-3 reminds me of our record after the jgp trade. Before we were saved by the bubble. I guess will see if anyone can save us. lol

  8. Islander fan since mid 70s, grew up, listening to John Sterling on WMCA as I had no television growing up in a rather poor, but normally poor household.
I get all the complaints about the coach and GM but I think it's more to it than that and that's the severe lack of any determination or a passion or a cohesiveness amongst the players. Hockey was the last sport to suffer from this debilitating disease of selfishness, and for me, that is the biggest problem out there. No desire, no passion for winning or for teammates. It's selfies and PC BS full speed ahead. Still don't have a TV but do watch the games recap on YouTube and of course your show Gil, outstanding work and appreciate your almost thankless effort.

  9. Maybe switch Casey Cizikas to the 3rd line, and put JG on the 4th line. And as I always say, we need a true sniper and a left handed defenseman who can carry the puck over the opponents blue line…and of course, Lane and Lou must go!

  10. So many veterans find ways to let us down time and again. Too many players lose a step in the 3rd and we get pinned in the D-zone for long stretches. Too many really stupid penalties by our vets when they get beat on a play. Even if we start winning, this group will never be contenders. I think we need to focus on collecting solid prospects thru deadline trades, if it's even possible. It starts with Yoda. He's lost more talent than he has acquired, and signed more unmovable contracts than I thought possible. What a mess.

  11. Gm Gil. I thought two things stood out. For the second straight game, Anders Lee, the captain, chopped the stick out of the hands, took a slashing penalty, and the ensuing PP led to a goal. Second, when interviewed Lane Lambert looked resigned to the play and behavior of the team. Lee needs to be stripped of the C and Lane, having now lost this team, he needs to be shown the door. The penalties are showing us all how undisciplined this team is. Lambert has not shown us that this team is not accountable.

  12. 7 is my favorite number but I don’t like seeing it like this. Extremely disappointing, too many L’s

  13. Good morning team. So, the number grows to 7 winless streak. What can I say about this one that already hasn't been said. A lead in the 3rd period, same old result. My goat of the game is the PK. Varly played more than well enough to get this win. So disappointing. The bright spot for me, I'm glad the monkey is off Lee's back, for the moment. Thanks again, Gil. You know I love looking forward to your episode. Everyone, have a great weekend! See you all again Monday. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  14. I think it's time. I like Lou and lane however, I think it's time to cut lane and Lou should step aside. This team has become too complacent. In hindsight lane should not have been the coach of this team, Lou wants veterans and we have no time to spare letting a coach to develop. If we had a young team, he would have more of a leash. This falls on Lou, we are stuck in this cycle of mediocrity. I am legitimately scared lou will not trade anyone for picks/prospects at the deadline if they remain in the cellar. I'm also fearful that he'll trade away any first round picks. I don't see a bright future for this team with both at the helm.

  15. Gil like ya said when one thing breaks and it gets fixed it’s always another thing that isn’t working out for our team! And no offense to Anders Lee but I still don’t think he’s got it in him to play better! I think they should bench him for a game still. He just doesn’t fit it in!

  16. Where is Lou? Is he sleeping? Lambert needs to go! Maybe they can hire Gallant? Hell I’ll take over lol anything is better than this staff! Bring Capuano back for gods sake.
