The NHL just f***ed the Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks got screwed by the NHL. After Silfverberg appeared to score the 3rd period game tying goal for the Anaheim Ducks in last nights game against the Florida Panthers, the entire arena along with most hockey fans watching, thought Silfverberg had tied it. But after a a lengthy review, the NHL came back with their call – no goal. I break it down and talk about it in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. As a stars fan I’m very familiar with that chant it took us less than 2 periods into the season to start yelling at the refs in unison

  2. Panthers fan and yeah, that was fucking awful. How do you take 5 minutes to make a call and STILL get it wrong

  3. I think the main reason why the NHL (or Ice Hockey in general) isn't able to replicate the Tennis Hawk Eye system or the FIFA Goal Line technology is because their systems rely on unobstructed camera angles.

The reason Tennis and Soccer is able to do this is because their sports don't have scrambles on their lines. Ice Hockey in general can have things impact the view on the lines or the puck such as having multiple players in the crease, sticks, shadows, etc. Not to mention unlike Soccer/Tennis, the puck can go on an edge, while a ball is always in a sphere shape so that might also have a major impact on a system.

I feel if you were to try to use the same technology Tennis and Soccer have right now you would not get the same accurate results if the cameras can't tell the difference between a shadow, black tape on a stick, or the puck or if the goalie blocks the crucial camera angles. And if there was a technology that could bypass using cameras for the system that is accurate, I am sure other sports would've tried doing it by now.

  4. I don't know how they can call that no goal? It doesn't get any more definitive than that. That is THE textbook definition of conclusive video evidence.

  5. This literally happened to the Leafs in the playoffs last year against Florida. NHL must have a partnership with the panthers or something.

  6. Looks like a goal to me. I wonder if it will be one of those rare moments when the NHL acknowledges they made an error.

  7. As a Toronto fan, we get screwed like this all the damn time. Case in point was Friday's game against Detroit in Sweden. Marner's shot clearly would have been in if the net had not been knocked off the moorings. No goal on the ice and no goal from the idiots in the Toronto war room. I wonder if they are afraid they might be seen as bias. Maybe that's why The Leafs keep getting screwed. LOL

Anyway, Toronto took care of it themselves and won alright. Go Leafs Go!!

  8. Just like the leafs in game 5 of the second round these Florida refs bruh

  9. This is a challenging thing to determine with technology. The posts move. The goal moves. The puck is tiny. The puck is not round. It's likely solvable but it's a problem that doesn't benefit the NHL if solved.

Think about it. If the goal counted, who's talking about this game? Ducks and Panthers fans perhaps. But instead, the goal didn't count and now every hockey fan is raging on this conspiracy and "Next Man Up" is even benefitting from the controversy.

  10. they have puck tracking technology, i've seen it before, and why that can't be used to track the exact location of the puck to know it's past the line instantly is beyond me

  11. My only 2 thoughts are there may have been goaltender interference with the stick pushing the pad or there may have been confusion on what was the puck and what was the stick as I got confused thinking it was clearly still on the line even after you freeze framed it and it took me a while to see it

  12. I was at the game rooting for the Panthers. And after it got called nogel. I didn't understand it. Looked like it crossed. Also everyone was mad. I've never heard it get that loud. I've been to astros angels after they cheated and the booze were not as loud. Also it was five dollar beer night so fans were pissed and they were drunk

  13. Looked like one to me but seems like they're using the same logic as NFL refs when it comes to catches. Even if it seems like an easy call if the replay is not 110% clear they won't overturn the call on the field, or ice in this case.

  14. It was a goal. There's nothing worse than using all the fancy review tech and still getting it wrong.

  15. I was at the game and with my bifocals it could not have been any clearer. It took way too long for Toronto to clarify the issue especially when all they had to do was look up at the jumbotron. The only possible reason for reversal would have been a quick whistle without referee confirmation of puck containment. The crime was the seven minutes ti took the officials to check it out. Shame on the NHL. My parting comment last night was who is training NHL referees ? Mr. Magoo?

  16. The 1st line needs a shake up when Leo dosnt play. Not that i want to split up the 2nd line because imo its been our best and most consistent line, i feel putting McTavish with Killorn and Terry and moving Henrique with Strome and Vratrano would be better….

Not going to lie, when Z gets back, i think she should play on the 3rd line for a bit. Keep Killorn on the first

  17. 10000% a goal. The NHL needs to fix this idk how hard it would be to just place a sensor under the ice that detects if the puck crossed over but that could be a solution. Or just a better officiating crew and better crew in toronto

  18. The nhl has its favourites. Panthers, Boston, Oilers , Unbelievable how refs favouring teams over other teams, Corruption

  19. As a ducks fan, watching the review go on longer and longer I knew what the call would be. The nhl is a clown show for not getting their poop in a group and utilizing all and better technology and Toronto is utterly useless. The ducks don’t do themselves any favors continually getting behind early in the game, but this season the one thing they are known for is a late comeback. So for that to be taken away in this manner is brutal. Also considering this could have been a bounce back game after the Colorado game.

  20. Seems like since legal gambling is now a thing and the refs calling Toronto constantly, the whole thing seems Suspicious.

  21. One thing you did not note is that the league has cameras in the cross bar, and other angles, that broadcasts do not have access to. For what reason? I do not know. That, paired with the fact that they did not call it a goal on the ice, leads me to believe they cautioned, and the view they had showed the puck may have been a fraction of a cm on the line, so they could not conclusively call a goal. Should it really need to come down to that small of scrutiny, where that little makes a difference? I can’t really say.

  22. Probably the 3rd time it's happened this year, the league has to figure out what they're doing
