    Our goals saved above expected and goals scored above expected are both about average, which would be fine if our powerplay wasn’t horrendous.

    The Sabres are roughly average at everything except for penalty differential and the power play, both of which ranks near the bottom of the league. That results in them having one of the worst special teams goal differential. Take that and add in being average at everything else and the results are unpleasant. If you want to be an optimist about it you can say the Sabres have played three games (the second NYI game, Colorado, and Winnipeg) that shows the path forward to being a competitive team under Granato’s new direction.
