Read that Tampa is interested in Patrick Kane. Saw this on [bleacherreport.com](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10097474-nhl-rumors-patrick-kane-likely-to-sign-contract-by-thanksgiving-rangers-out-of-mix) and [Missin Curfew](https://youtu.be/C8TY-JxzFdM?si=5UdBMg_IewSkOOgM) . How would this work with the current salary cap situation? I know Kane turns 35 today, could his age give JBB the wiggle room to make it work by using bonus $? And how would Kane fit exactly? No way Kuch would be giving up his spot on the PP. I’m also curious what folks think about Kane’s defensive skills, always seemed like he was a bit of a liability.

Doesnât really sound like heâs after money at this point. Iâm sure we could get him at close to league minimum, maybe using signing bonus or performance bonuses. Heâd probably be a middle six scoring threat and play on the second Powerplay unit. Heâs coming off surgery and 35, so he probably wouldnât be getting any kind of top minutes
I would be annoyed if we signed Kane. Our problem isnât a lack of goal-scorers, itâs poor defense. Kane is not known for his strong defensive play. Also, we should be trying to make the roster younger, not bringing in an older player whoâs past his prime.
Realistically I think the appeal of Tampa itself makes players gravitate to florida if they can. Idk much about Kane but could be worth it if he wants to come cheap. When is gourdes contract up? ha
He doesnât meet the requirements for a bonus filled a contract like Bergeron last year because even though Kane turns 35 today the league technically considers him 34 years old the entire season whenever he returns. He also doesnât meet the requirement for a bonus filled contract like Connor Brownâs current contract is structured in EDM, had he spent majority of last season on LTIR.
Itâs all really going to come down to his role and if he wants 750k to play Top 6 minutes for a Cup Contender or 1m to play Middle 6 minutes for a Cup Contender.
However my past teenager self would love to see him and Stammer playing together on the 2nd Line. The adult in me is a little skeptical about it on if heâll return to form and play like Brad Marchand has or bow out like Nicklas Backstrom later on down the road.
Makes no sense whatsoever. We have more than our share of 30-something offensive stars, and no cap room.
