I can see Draisaitl being traded next year when his trade value is at his highest because we don’t have the cap space to resign him and Connor at a higher price. He will bring back an amazing return (hopefully an elite goalie and elite shut down D man). We cannot resign both McD and Drai because Nurse has an insane contract that nobody wants. If the Oilers want defensive depth and an elite goalie then one of our superstars has to go. McD may say that I want out and then we could lose both of the stars in couple of years.
Imo, the only thing to do is to play Skinner & Pickard for the rest of the season. Even if we acquired a Jake Allen, we would have to win 70% of our remaining games to get to 100 pts. Can anyone honestly see this current squad doing that? I can’t. They’ve had 16 games to right the ship, and we’re still one of the worst teams in the NHL. The D and Goaltending are weak, as is our PP & PK, and our top players aren’t producing at all. Write this season off and make some major deals next summer, when we’re not dealing from a point of desperation.
Holland has no choice. He took a chance on Campbell, didn't work out. He needs to get the best goalie now, whatever the cost, or lose mcdavid and dry. Very simple. And fire that goalie coach FFS already.
Fix the mistakes. Get Tyson Barrie back, get woodcroft back, and get rid of nurse and his contract and get rid of bouchard. The clock is ticking Holland, only a few games left before the season is gone. And quit destroying this team.
It's going to be 3 steps forward 1 step back slowly getting back into a playoff position.. If we drop a few games on this trip then I would be worried tho.. If we win the rest of our trip then things are still on track ( imo )
Elite goalie will still need defence . I can see Drai being traded as much as that would suck. 2 big contracts plus nurse and 5 mil tied up in a goalie in Bakersfield that is no where near NHL calliper. Holland created some of this mess. Woody and Manson paid the price.

I think Bouchard needs to be moved. I appreciate what he has done in the past for this team though. I thought maybe putting desharnais with ekholm. He has some solid work for the team so far. And keep the other two lines of defence together. Atleast til see what that pairing does.

I've said all along, that since the Oilers' top 6 all play big minutes, going 11 and 7 is workable, so they should just use Bouchard as a PP specialist (and late in the 3rd when behind by a goal or two). He should not get big 5v5 minutes until he learns to defend. Much of the speculation about trades is just dumb ways that the team can sink their future. The main issue seems to be that McDavid appears to be less than 100%, and Bouchard is getting way too much 5v5 time.
They need to give Pickard a fair shot. He's earned it with his play in the pre-season, and then in BAK. He's been getting cold on the bench for 2 weeks already. Skinner has shown in the playoffs last season that he cannot handle 6+ games in a row. What's wrong with the Oilers coaching? Big goalies that are 6'4+ need time to recuperate after games and cannot be like Fuhr playing 80 games in a season. Ever heard of Load Management?

unfortunately, until we get elite goal-tending and defense, I think we are in trouble. The NHL is very unforgiving over a stretch.
