Sometimes it may not be the player, but the coach to blame. Bc they wouldn't want to stay benched and would want more ice time so they over step their game
I think this Ross Colton boarding penalty on Luke Hughes is wrong. Colton went shoulder to shoulder on Hughes. Hughes should have protected himself by leaning into Colton on the momentum of the play. Instead, Hughes turns away from the play, causing his back to be more exposed to Colton.
This is really similar to Wood’s hit on Siegenthaler. Both going after the puck, heavy should to should hit that causes the defender to go heavily into the boards. It seems like there’s a lot of latitude for refs to call boarding – it’s any hit that causes a player to go dangerously into the boards. Doesn’t need to be high or from behind to get called. Should definitely be a boarding penalty, not sure that it rises to a fine or suspension.
This is not a boarding penalty this is a slew-foot penalty because Colton put his lag behind Hughes lag and Colton put his arms in front of Hughes and Colton kicked his lag and puled with his arms
Probably biased opinion here but idk… seems like a clearly dangerous hit. Hughes was bracing himself for the impact when they both got to the puck. At full speed you can see it clearly he starts leaning away to shift his momentum back at the moment of impact… the expected moment of impact… when he touches the puck. But Colton is all eyes on luke, hits him early and unexpected, no regard for the boards. Could have been a knee or a shoulder injury if not a brutal concussion.
As an avs fan, I didn't like this play at all. He coulda braced and drove through contact towards the boards and still delivered a solid hit cutting the guy off from the puck and it woulda been legal. He wound up to hit that guy as hard as he could just because he had the opportunity. It was a dirty play and I wish the I could say the avs are above that but clearly there's a player or two that arent
Hughes is looking over his shoulder. It looks like he is going to engage, and at the last second, he turns. I have no sympathy for players who do this to draw a penalty, and end up getting hurt.

Guy didn't touch the puck – interference.
dangerous hit
That should be a 4 minute pen for interference and boarding

Right in the #4, not even in control of the puck

Careless and wreckless. should be a 2 games suspension
Nothing wrong with this hit. Probably looks a lot worse because Luke Hughes is a little bitch 😂
Did Hughes forget he's playing an NHL hockey game?? Gotta protect yourself there bruddah.
