Removing Klingberg is like treating a symptom of an illness. He's been terrible but the list of defencemen playing poorly in Toronto and improving when leaving is a long one. The defensive system doesn't work and defencemen are dropped in the deep end instantly and blamed if they can't carry the rest of the guys to the other side. Like the Oilers Toronto insist on having an I in team and that's not the way to bring home cups.
Treliving and Shanahan need to leave. now.

You sheep keep blaming players. The Bruins literally change everyone and they always have one of the best defence in the league. It’s coaching kids. It’s team culture. My first game watching Sheldon coach in junior I said after two periods that he is clueless putting in a system to stop the other teams best players. Not saying he should be fired but maybe get someone on staff who specializes in defence?

It’s not the player that’s the problem. It’s a teams system, culture and want to commit to team defence. When a team does that mistakes from single players aren’t as apparent.
Sam Pollock, (long time and very successful Montreal Canadians GM) was asked how he became so successful in evaluating players and putting such strong teams together. In his day their were were fewer teams and the drafting and selection of players was very different. But it was the same environment for all teams. His answer was simple, Firstly he looked for players who had been on winning teams, Championship teams. Because they knew what it took to win. That is still the same, when you are on a Cup team, you are wanted. Brad Treliving brings none of that.
Brad Treliving played hockey for 7 Yrs. two seasons of Júnior hockey, split between; Major JR and Jr. A, on 5 teams, playing 4 games in play offs once. He played 5 Yrs. in the minor leagues, ECHL, IHL, and AHL. Where he played for 8 teams, the majority was in the ECHL 243 Games. AHL 15 games. Brad is 6 ft 4 in his biggest stat 831 PIM. In 2 play off appearances, 9 games played 1 Assist and 61 PIM.
He played due to his size and not his skill. His hires (Cal and TO) are all questionable. What was TML thinking. This will not end well. WP.

The biggest mistake? clearly it was keeping Keefe. In four years he still has not implemented a system that the players have bought into. For the past 4 years they have had to "outscore" the opposition because they don't have a system that commits them to team defense. They can make all the trades they want but until they have a competent coach, it'll be futile.

Its not just the Defense the forwards aren't tracking back hard enough on that last play with Klinberg he was in between a rock and a hard place cover the guy to the front of the net or pick up the guy with puck coming across the blueline a forward should be picking up the guy carrying the puck across the blue line

Woll didn't help matters on any of those goals. He either muffed a shots, or completely committed to the puck carrier. He could have anticipated a pass, but he bit hard on the puck carrier. Keep throwing him in net. Teams now know that all you have to do it pass it by him, because he bites hard on the puck carrier. Poor anticipation and positioning. Woll looked like garbage on every one of those Ottawa goals.
Good move Dallas, you saved 8 million a season. Obviously end of the line but he's got 30 million bucks in the bank so why should he care?
