  1. I know the Canadian followers may not appreciate this perspective so much, but a great example of not needing a Superstar is the 1980 USA Olympic team…no Superstars…all role players that bought in to the plan of an amazing coach.

  2. Always look forward to seeing a young prospects get a chance. It feels like half of our team was in that position moments ago.

  3. Great job gents! I will subscribe! I say down Slaf (AHL) up Roy. Easy switch. What do u fellas think? 😊

  4. When the Habs won the Cup in 1986 and 1993, we had no superstars in our team. We had a big and strong defence and a pretty good offence. Even Patrick Roy didn't want to take too much credit and he always pointed out our great defence. He even said that our great defence made him look good. It's still a B***ch that they didn't draft Mitchkov but I'm counting on our big players for long term success. The ones who won't run out of gas in the playoffs.

  5. Pour faire un échange, Kent Hughes doit convaincre tout le monde et son père que le joueur qu'il offre est la huitième merveille du monde. Il est le spécialiste du plafond salarial et des contrats. C'est un fin renard qui joue la game dans la game dans la game.

  6. Reminder that we made it to the Finals with Philip Danault as our number one center. If you got 6 strong defence men and a franchise goalie you can win the cup.

  7. Of course he’s gonna said that after passing on michkov and other talented forward at the last two drafts , we don’t need superstars , we just pay our players as if they were 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂ seriously ? 7.5 for caufield for 7 more years 🤦‍♂ yes , we don’t need superstars , we’ll built a team made of overpaid average players?

  8. When Montreal had brian bellows and kirk muller, there was no superstars, but all Ines were good, and they won the Stanley cup

  9. Norlinder has been horrible in Laval. I hope they called him up to sit in the stands and watch and learn. Maybe practice hard too. Trudeau must be pissed he was passed over for Norlinder. Struble was called up for his physicality that we needed without Xhekaj. Norlinder was called up for political reasons of some sort or other because Trudeau deserved it way more.

  10. I'd also argue that Boston never had a true star.. they were just amazing at playing defence and had great goaltending.

  11. God damn…why did he have to say that. All i had was hope that one day we would have a bona-fide star. This just makes me want to tune out until Kent hughes gets canned in a out 8 years 🙁

  12. my first thot: Les Habs are 25 th………..ya VINGT CINQUE in scoring…can "t win unless you "" Poot puck in net "" quote }} from A Kostitsyn

  13. I agree with KH. Vegas has 3 really good players. We will probably have 4 in 4 years. We will also have a defence that is as good as Vegas' was last year at that same time. Lets let this rebuild unfold.

  14. Seriously, what’s the difference between a star and a superstar ? The size of the market, the talent level, if a player is spectacular or not ?

Vegas understood that the difference is minimal and often times only superficial, they aimed to acquire under appreciated stars from different market to complement the team they drafted, acquired and negotiated at the expansion draft. Stone, Eichel, Pietrangelo, Fleury, Statsny, Pacioretty, Perron, Tatar, Marchessault, Smith, Lehner, Neal, sure they managed to find dozens of misfits like Karlsson, Roy, Theodore and others … and their scouting is also competent, Nick Suzuki was their pick after all and they keep finding other fits for the Knights out of nowhere, but the gist of it is they managed to have the most out of the cap they could, and got rid of players the second it didn’t work in their favor.

Montreal shouldn’t be content with Suzuki and Caufield but 7, 8 or more of them, Matheson, Dach, Monahan are a good start, the Canadiens needs to work on the getting rid of part (Dvorak, Anderson, Armia to name a few) … so what’s next ?

  15. What kent is trying to say is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. If you have one guy carrying your team it can be a blessing and a curse because if a team isolates him then you get shut down. If you have a hard working roster and everyone buys in youre a harder team to play against. That doesnt mean you dont need goal scorers just means you need a balanced line up.

  16. I’m 31 years old with a 15 year old nephew ! I tell him every game this is the best and deepest roster I’ve witnessed! Pumped to watch struble 👍

  17. I kinda think that every team wants and needs a "game-breaker" superstar. Every fanbase, wants a superstar. But, as in life, there is a time and a place for everything. The Habs have a LOT of prospects and young players who havent developed; havent demonstrated their FULL POTENTIAL just yet. It might take another 2 or 3 seasons for all of the prospects in the NHL, AHL and CHL to get their time to shine in Montreal. There will likely be several who turn out to be above average NHL players, but there are likely a few who looked good enough in Junior to be drafted, but wont ever make it in the NHL at all. All of this will work itself out in time. Kent Hughes, by saying that Habs dont need any "superstars" turns down the pressure on him and Gorton to make some "blockbuster" deal that lands a superstar, but guts the team of yet unknown talented prospects we have. It also signals the fanbase that they have a plan, and they are going to stick with it and develop the prospects and build the talent pool. In a "Salary Cap" system, on a Canadian-based team, it's crucial to build a winner from within, and when the time is right, go after one or two players that will hopefully put the Habs on a deep playoff run. Unfortuantely, this is NOT the right time to make some dumb trade to bring in a superstar. This team finished 28th last season, and likely wont improve much at all this season. For me, this is the best news of all. Stay the course Hughes. Patience Habs fans. Patience.

  18. If Nick pay check is the hihest on the Team. Then those big STARS may not be consider in the first place.

  19. a team cant win with 2 stars alone but at the same time a team cant win without a 'star' i have mixed feeling about this

  20. One thing I noticed is that the message KH sent out is the same one that Marty is preaching. It’s all about balance. Management and coaching being this aligned is a good thing imo

  21. So the Habs complain about lack of toughness and play the tough guys less and less, and the midgets more and more.

The Habs last superstar player was like Mats Naslund, and guys off the 83 team. They needs size. strength and grit. But they keep getting these guys that can't play that way.

  22. "Two players alone have never won the Stanley Cup". That's just BS. I get where he's coming from, and it's much harder to do now since the level of talent in the league is more homogeneous than ever.

But you don't have to look that far back tbh. That's pretty much what happened for the pens in 08-09
