Timmins coming back could be huge. I really hope he can stay healthy. Lagesson has been such a nice surprise, if Timmins can get back to or even close to the pace he had in preseason, that 3rd pairing is looking much better. Takes away a lot of the pressure to make an immediate trade if that pairing can work well together.

Man, if some form of Lagesson, Timmins, Liljegren can workout and be reliable, and Klingberg is yeeted out of existence, suddenly it feels like the Leafs are just 1 D man away from having a solid core.

We’ll see how things go, but so far, Knies doesn’t look out of place with Matthews/Marner, the Nylander line is rolling and you hope at some point that jump starts Bertuzzi (who has been decent of late)…

They actually seem to be developing a LEGIT 3rd line with Domi, Robertson, Jarnkok. And then just not having Reaves out there is an addition by subtraction in itself, but more over, McMann-Kampf-Gregor just sounds like an extremely reliable 4th line that (as far as 4th lines go) you also have to respect can pack-a-punch on the score sheet.

I do wonder, and I know Kane is a highly debatable topic, but if the guy is willing to sign a 1×1, I’m curious if he looks at the Leafs and the opportunity to play with either Matthews or Nylander and licks his chops. If you treat that like your “forward” acquisition for the trade deadline, then you’re just going out there trying to acquire a D.

We have to keep in mind too, we have some flexibility here. You get Kane on a 1-year, and it’s not working out come trade deadline, you can move him. Bertuzzi is somebody else I see on that chopping block.

In both instances, each player likely would be interested in getting another contract after this year. So, if it’s not working out in Toronto, even if these players have NMC, it’s in their best interest to waive them at a chance to finish the season strong somewhere else. And if everybody works out and is firing on all cylinders, it’s just gravy.

  4. I love all this but we still need to get to a point where Gio is 6/7th D. I absolutely love the guy, but at 40 I just don’t think he lasts a long playoff run as 3/4D minutes. He would kill himself trying but we gotta get someone to fill that role with McCabe

  5. Timmins crushed in the Preseason and I’m hoping he can crush now
