I’d be the happiest RIT alum if this happens. That said, Tanev isn’t really a physical “threat”. But he is exceptionally skilled at something the Devils style relies on: breakout passes from the defensive zone. Severson was decent enough at them, but Tanev is a tier above for sure. Not to mention incredibly responsible defensively.

Tanev fought Trouba only in reaction to a big hit, he just happened to be the guy around and stepped up, it was a meh fight, consensus is Tanev lost it. Dude has only one other career scrap that I’m aware of.
He ain’t a physical rival to anyone. You make this move if he improves your defense. Not if you want to put Trouba in check. That would require someone else.
