Anyone else think the DPG experiment in the top 6 should end?

  2. Ok-Fisherman7734

We’ve got a good cushion in terms of points which is great. Even if we play .500 for the rest of the season, we should be good. The boys just need to pull through and just play better. Hopefully we get some points in the next couple of games. The next test will be against the knights.

One thing that I find annoying is how some of us are using “the boys are tired” as an excuse. No they’re not, they’ve just gotta get their head in the game. Petterson needs to do more and contribute.

I will not let the Canucks dictate my mood. I will not let the Canucks dictate my mood. I will not let the Canucks dictate my mood. I will not let the Canucks dictate my mood. fuck my day is ruined

  4. wintercom

Would you all say it’s time for all of us to panic, crack open each other’s heads, and feast on the goo inside?

  5. Haywood_jablowmei

the boys played hard, and shouldn’t be to bummed. I’m still pissed about the garland penalty, absolutely killed the momentum we had. would have been a totally different game.

    what a wild second.

  6. Megavore97

We didn’t play bad in the 1st and 3rd, Makar just capitalized on one mistake and then locked it down defensively to prevent a comeback.

We need to be better if we’re going to have a deep playoff run though. We’re beating weaker teams but the Avs, Stars, and Kings of the league are going to be the teams we need to be able to hang with and take games off of.

Definitely starting to get concerned about the PP a little bit, I know they’re still top 3 in the league but the movement is still there but it’s a lot of the same shit that we complained about last season where they make a ton of passes and have a lot of perimeter play but no real actual high danger chances, we had some golden opportunities with the calls in this one but couldn’t get absolutely anything going. I am also begging them to sit Petey at this point. He literally does not shoot anymore, I find I’ve always wished Petey used his shot more but on the PP and at 5 on 5 he is just not ever getting his shot off lately. The defensive game is still there for the most part but man he’s been straight up bad the past few weeks and Tocchet has mentioned that he’s playing through stuff. Doesn’t make much sense to me to keep playing him when he’s like this because that line was the worst of the four tonight and that’s been a theme lately.

On the plus side, loving the bottom six effort lately, and ultimately I actually thought this was the best game they’ve played since the Isles, it’s just Colorado is a team that’s a coin toss to beat at the best of times. Toughest test of the season so far, every single team goes through these sorts of stretches where the results aren’t going their way but they need to find a way to battle through this. If Friedman and Myers are out beyond a game or two Allvin and co really need to pull the trigger on a blueliner because as someone who watches Abby frequently, the depth down there in that department isn’t going to hold up if one or both is out long term.

  8. Still holding the title as a playoff team but starting to lose the title of a top division team. Whether there are injuries or not it doesn’t matter if you’re a top division team and a cup contender. They will always create new systems and find new ways to win. Just look at the NYR’s insane streak with the injuries they had while Zibanejad was practically non-existent. Not worried about the playoffs at all, but I would just love to see the Canucks continuously thrive as a top division threat, it’s a feeling we haven’t had since 2012/2013 before things really went downhill. Anyways, see y’all in Seattle. It’ll be an important 4 point game to keep them at bay.

A 5 minute, FIVE MINUTE, and we didnt see 1 second of powerplay.. ONE SECOND.

Look at the last few games, they only give us powerplays when we are losing or its under 19 minutes in the 3rd.

Cant get past this anymore. AND NOT EVEN A REMOTE MENTION in the after game, when an AMERICAN TEAM beats us.

    Screw this crap.

  10. Twinbladey

Injuries to our defencemen, Petey’s line not doing jack shit, Demko only being able to do so much thanks to the shit defence in front of him….

    Losing record by christmas, incoming.

    #Regression

Everyone getting too fancy all the time pass it 10 times and lose possession so many times.

Hopefully coach can get them back on path.

  12. canucks5364

I mean this stretch of games is the test ppl wanted to see if they could bounce back and recover from. The combo of injuries piling up on Soucy, Suter, maybe Friedman, Petey playing injured and being meh, Kuzy nonexistent, Demko not being Demgod…

  13. CoedNakedHockey

I was at the game. Honestly looked like we kept pace and controlled the game at points. Could’ve used another save.

  14. Canucks are 3-5-1 against playoff teams as of today. They need to step their shit up.

  15. couldbeworse2

We went from “we are shit and will never see the playoffs ever again” to “we should be dominating good teams, otherwise we are shit”. Like, take a fucking breath. We are not the 85 oilers, like, at all, and the 85 oilers lost games. This game was not terrible. Players will struggle because they are real people. You can play well and lose.

  16. bobwong128

When are we going to have a serious talk about kuzmenko ?

  17. YachtsOnDaaReg

played well. Didn’t go our way. That’s hockey.

  18. Gotta love the difference between the r/hockey game thread and this one, all the avs fans are like “damn close game yall are a good team” and people in here are ready to sell the team lol

  19. Tuff game, apparently can only win against poverty franchises goodnight

  20. ToyStrecher

We should’ve played DeSmith in the Sharks game. I dunno how much Demmer messed up tn. But if anything, it could’ve helped

  21. RockyRacoon444

Man is petterson hurt he hasn’t been noticeable at all past few games

  22. Grizzlies604

To be fair all I wanted was to make playoffs this season. Think we gotta lower expectations a bit

  23. NikkahEff

The guys played well, it was the bottom 6 taking stupid penalties like Garland and Beau that lost us this game, I hate to say it but honestly Vancouver could find themself in a wild card spot if they don’t win the next 2-3 games.

LA has games in hand and they aren’t losing to the ducks, habs and capital for their next 3 so you can guarantee 6 points there and seattle is catching up with 21 points, if they lose against the kraken on Friday, there’s a 4 point difference between nucks and kraken.

The Blues are also not to far away, with 2 games in hand on the nucks they could easily be 3 points below us and they could easily get 4/6 points in their next two with Chicago and Wild served up on a plate.

This could get ugly if the nucks don’t smarten up with us barely holding onto a wildcard spot when Christmas time hits.

  24. AidanITC2

If Alvin doesnt get on the phones ASAP this team is doomed.

It turns out we need a competent D core and DEPTH so that when one player is out we dont completely fucking die and lose almost all momentum

Zadarov, Tanev doesnt matter. Injuries have plagued us since the dawn of time. We need to come up with new solutions to tackle these age old issues.

Traded Alvin get yo ass to work before we completely lose the season in December

  25. NotoriousBananaHavoc

We lost it sucks but fuck who would’ve thought Quinn Hughes and Cal Makar would take the mantle from Crosby and Ovie of the must watch etched in HOF games… an its two D men doing what forwards do and as well do defence both very damn well they are both Bo Jackson of the NHL

  26. phantomgiratina

Bro the Avs fans are flooding the twitter replies with Makar > Hughes, they’re actually insufferable

  27. phantomgiratina

on makar’s goal, why was he near the blue line instead of near the goalie? Isn’t a defenseman suppose to be defense first? Was he trying to cherry pick for offense?

  28. lestranganese

I feel like people are starting to have way too high expectations because of our start. We are a playoff team, but we are NOT a contender, our blue line is too shallow and it always was. Injuries to players like soucy and friedman dont impact a contender like this. Tyler myers is probably not even on a contending teams top 6 but if he goes down we’re fucked. Alvin and co have done a great job turning this team around but u cant 180 to a contender that quick.

We held on decently against one of the top teams in the league. This was not one of our more worrying recent games imo. The reality is that we were always a longshot to make a deep run. Our path to the finals is likely LA and Vegas in the first 2 rounds and then Dallas or Colorado in the semis. Thats a tough path.

Going into the year, if u told me that the team would make the playoffs and there would be significant improvement all around, i would have been happy. Keep a positive attitude people, we look like we’re finally going in the right direction right now. All of managements pro scouting moves have been looking great this year. We finally have competent management and depth on forward and in goal. Give us a couple more years to get our blueline figured out (hopefully with the help of willander) and let some of our bad contracts expire and this team might be ready to make some noise.

Time will tell but the sky isnt falling if we don’t lead the division this season. Our hot start bought us room for struggles and injuries. We are still ok.

  29. Ovenbakedfood12

We really need a play driving winger. All our wingers are complimentary level players. We need a true star.

  30. couldbeworse2

This thread makes me wonder if this is what it’s like being a Leafs fan? If so, it’s awful

  31. carry-on_replacement

So… who do we replace Kuzmenko and Mikheyev with to wing Petey? I’m fine with keeping Mikheyev but Kuzy is a bit too slow. As much as I’d hate breaking up that excellent third line, I think giving Garland a shot at Petey’s wing might make the most sense

  32. SomethingGreasy

They honestly played well, well enough to hang with a top team. The game was 2-2 going into the third, and even at 2-3, they had a chance to win. They lost that period (didn’t win da turd) but outshot COL and had plenty of chances. Special teams was a difference, their PP is ice cold right now and way too passive, way too much passing rather than just getting on net quickly. Even if it gets cleared after, that’s the same result as the one shot after 50 seconds that gets cleared, so might as well just do it fast. Game could have gone the other way if they had converted (thinking of Joshua in the first period) but instead Makar and the others took over. In a best of 7, we’d have a fighting chance.

  33. GangreneMachine

Avs fans are weirdly obsessed with Makar, like he is their biological child
