A few days ago, the Buffalo Sabres hosted their Prospects Challenge and the New Jersey Devils participated in it. Second overall pick (2022) Simon Nemec was named an alternate captain by head coach Kevin Dineen. Despite the amount of minutes he played, somebody on social media called Nemec out for his “lackluster” performance. Dawson Mercer’s little brother, Riley, also participated in the Prospects Challenge and turned a lot of heads. Finally, Timo Meier made a big change before the start of the season.

It's just like those people who said Timo had a bad playoffs against the Rangers because he didn't score any goals. They didn't watch the games and went based on stats alone. Good for all the Devils writers and fans that stood up for Simon. 🏒
There were a couple of other Devils fans who said sometimes it was hard to tell Jack and Timo apart on the ice because their numbers were similar. I have to agree especially when Jack was hitting Rangers during the playoffs. It's also nice Timo is doing some charity stuff too related to the number change and jersey sales. He's a good guy.
Šimon will be fine not worried about what other people say we know he's legit. Timo can wear whatever number he wants just glad he's stayin in Jersey.
Do you think Marino will eventually slide down to the 3rd pairing? Nemec seems too talented to keep playing low minutes once he's had a season or two of development, not sure how long they plan on keeping Marino around but he doesn't deserve 3rd pair minutes either, it'll be interesting to see how they'll deal with the logjam on the right side in the years to come
People tend to be hard on Defensemen and goalies, as if they want a magic player. One that never ever misses a pass or a save. One that shoots every shot ever on goal and scores. Thats not reality but its all across the league. Social media has skewed peoples perspectives.
Simon Nemeć is the guy early in his career will be more focused offensively in his game. Defensively he’ll become more consistent defensively sounded dealing with NHL caliber players over time. As a video scout and a prospects guy, defenders take longer to come to fruition than a forward.
