Any time this team loses two in a row, people act like the sky is falling. Then they rattle off a few wins and the doomsday crowd goes quiet waiting for the next blip.

    **Immediately: Sheldon Keefe**

    * Deserving or not coaches will always be the first one to go and often the scapegoat. Extra pressure with **Guy Boucher** right there ready to swoop in.

    **End of Season:** **Brendan Shanahan**

    * If the season goes south or more of the same lack of playoff success then fingers will point to the very top as it likely means the entire system and core has been a failure and reached the point of multiple GM and Coaches not being the answer.

**Brad Treliving** has had a single off-season under his belt. He is not being fired anytime soon and will certainly be given at least another 2 seasons unless things completely turn to shit.

**Mitch Marner** would be under a lot of pressure if he did not have the NTC. If a core altering trade was to ever be considered it would likely be him. However, he does have the NTC and thus has all the power and is under no real pressure.

They have 5 Regulation wins, constantly have to play from behind and constant chatter that their top players aren’t performing. This is a coach issue and has been for awhile. Keefe ain’t it, but he won’t get fired so NO ONE is on the hot seat.

  4. Soggy_Specific4093

    Nobody yet,

Why haven’t the other teams who have underperformed (besides the Oilers) made changes or trades like the Devils, Hurricanes, Sabres, Flames, Kraken, etc?

Because it’s still early and there’s still 62 more games and they are still in a playoff spot with a few games in hand than teams ahead of them.

  5. AfterAd7618

It’s better be Keefe. Can’t stand him, good coaches GET MORE out of their lineup, not less. Guess which one Keefe manages to “achieve”?
One thing Brian Burke was right about is “blue and white” disease, and currently this whole team has been infected.
5 regulation time wins says a lot.

  6. they all are, at the end of the day its their jobs, if you underperform at your job its met with criticism. Do we need to act now on something? No. At least lets get over 50% into the season before passing large judgements. All these guys are never not in the hot seat.

  7. sokocanuck

    Hmm.

New manager here for 6 months? Nope
C-suite manager? Possibly but very unlikely this early
Star winger who is struggling? Not if New Manager want’s to keep his job
Coach with a few kicks at the can with the best roster the Leafs may have ever seen and has essentially no success? Ding Ding Ding!

Trade Matthews to Anaheim for MacT, Mintyukov, and gibson. Throw Sammy in there as well.

Not sure entirely but I like entertaining this idea of trading Marner. I’m too hard on him sometimes but I find the general public has a hard time criticizing his game. No player is perfect and their is an aspect to his game that just won’t change. It is what it is. And I think considering a team without a Mitch would be a new Era. No offence to him

I really don’t think he has the “it” factor to be a #2 go-to man when it comes to going for the cup.. its just the physicality and grittiness. The team as a whole lacks that in their culture too. Which is surprising considering Shanahan is running the show

I’m genuinely shocked Keefe is still here.

Not that he’s a brutal coach or anything but it’s been years and the team is still have the same (for the most part) problems. Players have come and gone, GMs have come and gone. Only thing that hasn’t really changed is the coach and this roster not being able to find “their identity”.

Not saying FIRE KEEEEFE!!! But if someone’s in the hot seat I’d think it’s him 🤷🏻‍♂️.

  11. Outside of Klingberg, Kampf, and Reaves I thought Tree had a good offseason.

Kampf was Keefe. Klingberg he got out of without giving up assets. Reaves is like 300K above minimum so it’s not exactly the end of the world.

If he can shore up the D this team is fine. All the D everyone is complaining about are Dubas guys. Hard to completely rework the D in one offseason.

I think the issue is Keefe and Matthews/Marner. You’re not going to trade either so you’re stuck firing the coach again. If there’s no improvement by the time Mitch and John expire you can actually move off the core 4.

After every playoffs it always comes back to Keefe, Matthews, and Marner.

  12. I think Keefe is aware he’s a human shield at this point. Shanahan is running out of bullets to use. Marner is only remotely hot seated because of Nylander money. And treliving has minimum all this season and next no matter what happens

    My opinion

  13. Sr_Raisin_bran

Trade willy for d man fire keefee and Shanny is new coach

  14. Wonderful-Sea3370

once leafs miss the playoffs this year then it will be clean house time

  15. angelsandairwaves93

    Keefe

    Matthews

    Marner

Treliving is safe because as some here pointed out on one of my previous comments, Treliving bought himself a year by keeping Keefe.

Shannahan is only in jeopardy if they don’t make the playoffs or if they lose in the first round.

  16. Nobody right now. Another first round exit should be the end of Shanahan. It’s been enough of him. He’s escaped the criticism too many times at this point.

  17. TorturedFanClub

This team isn’t a contender. They’re gonna scrap to make the playoffs. D is weak. G is average at best. Looks like a first rounder and not much else. Team is very similar to the Oilers imo. A few superstars… shit goaltending and weak Defense, always trying to outscore their deficiencies.

Edit: ofc this roster will undergo some changes before playoffs but will it be enough? I dunno

  18. osprey9711

Once we fall out of a playoff spot, which will be soon if we lose the next couple, Keefe will be fired.

  19. osprey9711

I’m starting to doubt if the leafs will make the play-offs at all. The last two games were horrible. Mathews and Marner are doing nothing. Goaltending has been sub par. Defence has never been good but scoring and goaltending have carried us in the past.

  20. osprey9711

So much for Matthews 50 goal pace…doubt he gets 40 this season.

  21. osprey9711

Why isn’t Matthews in the pic…not like he is playing much better than Marner, and he is supposed to be the superstar.

  22. Can we put the media personalities on this shit-list?

  23. SuperSafe2019

Keefe has had his turn. It’s great for him if his players like him, but you gotta win bro.

  24. GQMatthews

No one lol maybe Mitch if anything but it’s November. Also still have injuries on the back end and everyone should be WELL AWARE that Brad is trading for a quality defenseman or two. I like what we’ve seen from the team so far. Shore up Defense (which also takes longer to get comfortable with for new guys in the system) and we’ll look golden. I’m 100% sure Auston and Mitch will get outta their early season slump.

  25. WhoaWaddy

Why would any of them be on the hot seat? This teams fan base is so awkward

  26. Bluemaptors

Honestly, no one is. What I’m sick of is this same regular season story playing out again. They’re not the best team in the league or determined to be so and will finish 2nd or 3rd in the division again. I know there’s a “curse” on the presidents trophy regarding the Cup, but Boston and Tampa have both gone pillar to post best team in the league and I’m sure the fans really enjoyed it lol. Just wish the Leafs would do the same and bring some enjoyment to an incredibly dull season.

  27. aLottaWAFFLE

imo, no one. Klingberg LTIR gets him off – Reavo playing much less, heat off there too – Core 4 producing ppg or more.

Rest of team, making half the salary needs time to gel, to feel good (Bert in past 2 weeks much better, Domi assisting looks good – needs to score a goal that’s not a shootout to get monkey off his back)

    – – –

heat comes in playoffs or by missing playoffs (hehe), really… we all know that.
