  1. Adam is wrong about Hughes not being good at playing defense but he's right that the Canucks have had an easy schedule to start the season they've played the Sharks 3 times, they've played the Oilers who have been really bad to start the season 3 times, Montreal who isn't good, Ottawa who is last in their division, and the Islanders who aren't very good

  2. If kadri was the guy with that high stick, how many games would Mr bet man and tough guy parros the leafs hater give him. I say 10 games minimum.

  3. Someone shouldveread that rulebook in the Buffalo vs Pittsburgh game the other day. Letang checked a player whos stick came up and clipped Petterson, and it was literally called an accident by the ref and no penalty. Rule book reads: Player must be responsible for stick at all time… or so I thought.

  4. Steve, fake laughs and all, having a field day that he can diss the refs AND players being physical in a physical sport.

"I'm actually pretty objective at this"
😂 Right, right, and grass is blue.

  5. The sad thing is that this podcast episode about the Leafs could have literally been from any of the last four or five seasons. Nothing changes with the leafs.

  6. Adams early bed time is messing up his analysis of Quinn Hughes. I cant wait for this to be Adams next worst take or as we could call it (New Jersey Devils Moment!) and if so then I'll personally send a Quinn Hughes Skate Jersey to the SDPN at the end of the season so when the Canucks make the playoffs (probably 4-6 seed in the west) he can ROCK it and talk about how he's never doubted them for a second! Jokes aside, I get what he's talking about where they have yet to play against some really good teams like Vegas and LA, etc…and that's fair statement as this team has still a bunch to prove against tougher competition, but I really think we need to be talking more about many of the additions and more importantly what Filip Hronek has added to this team as a partner for Quinn Hughes and the PP. They are arguably a top 5 pair in this league that play 25+ mins a night and are such a unique puck moving force to the D core that we have not seen as Canucks fans in such a long time if ever. Everyone keeps saying its early, and that's true, but things feel so much different with this team. Now, as a 35+ year Canucks fan (Yes BIASED!) I'm hard to convince and seeing the progress of Hughes in all aspects of his game over the past 2.5 seasons has really made me a believer in him. I know as Canuck fans we are not used to nice things like this, and I know that our fanbase is excited coming out of the Stockholm Syndrome Benning Era, but most Canuck fans are not crazy enough to say anything like CUP or Conference Finals here. We are just excited that we might make the playoffs for once, and watching some of our young core finally start taking the next step is very welcoming, and so refreshing that all fan bases can relate to. Sure the Hughes/Hronek pair have had a few stinkers where they "THE TEAM" had breakdowns in the D zone and both D took a – or 2 in a game, or Hughes coughed up 1 3 threaded passes out of his 100 touches that game, but having Two D that have over 10 G, 45 assists, 55P and +31 combined in only 22 games that drive so much of the play is part of the reason why so many fans including myself still feel this team can make some noise eventually in this league. Cant wait to see the comment's in two months, but your still my favorite member of the Tripod Adam, Keep being the best HEEL on the POD. You guys are the best 🙂

  7. Adam saying Hughes is bad on defense is the same as people banging on about Karlsson's defense for years. All the people in the comments aren't saying Hughes is playing like Lidstrom defensively. There's a difference between bad and average, or even slightly below. Bad is being unusable, like Klingberg this year.

And no, I'm not saying EK was one of the best defensively. He would make mistakes, like most offensive-minded D. But when he was healthy he was never truly bad. Last year and now this one, since he's been really healthy again, he has been fine in his own zone. This season, he and Pettersson have been great together.

  8. As a Bruins fan, I really don't get the other Bruins fans "complaining" they are "made" to agree with Steve.

The Bruins get much more praise and admiration on SDPN than on any other platform I visit.

I wonder whether these "Bruins fans" would be able to ever publicly praise and admire the Leafs if the roles during the last decade + were reversed… I highly doubt it.

If you wanna hear nice things about the Bruins, come here.

  9. > How to make Willy work
Let's say he signs for 11M for 8 years. It leaves the Leafs with 23.2M to sign the remaining 10 (7) roster players.
Let's sat TJ Brodie is willing to stick around and give Leafs some discount. He signs at 3.2M cap hit for couple years. That leaves the Leafs with 20M to sign 9 (6) players.
Let's assume Robertson, Liljegren and Gregor are ready to sign some bridge deals with a combined cap hit of 6M (2, 3 and 1 respectively or something like that). This might be a bit too generous, but I guess it's fine and leaves the Leafs with 14M to sign 6 (3) players.

By this point it doesn't even look too bad. If we ignore the fact that one of them has to be a top-4(ish) D, one has to be a top-6 winger and one has to be a competent 3C capable of playing 2C or top-6 winger when someone ahead of him in the lineup gets hurt.

  10. Oh nooo, Adam please watch a couple Canucks games. I'm so tired of the eastern media dismissing Hughes defense story being talked about. We have to hear about it every single game and I'm tired.

  11. Tom Wilson never got suspended for slamming Panarin’s head to the ice. Trouba can knock as many guys in the head as he wants! I think Trouba mixed up Boston and Pittsburgh colors though

  12. Steve, Adam and Jesse I'm a Leafs fan from New Zealand when I started watching Ice Hockey in 2015 and follow your podcasts and Steve's after game videos. Not that long ago you were saying that the core four were scoring the majority of the points and the rest of the team had to lift their games. They have and the core four have backed off. I think this is a somewhat deliberate ploy to get the rest up to speed/ performing and that core four well the top line will start playing soon and playing very well. It's a long season this is a plan that has fooled most.

  13. Adam, your takes are getting worse every show. I thought you doing SDPN full time meant that you were going to be able to get more sleep and pay more attention to the rest of the league?

  14. I think Adam needs a new therapist, Hughes is a better defenseman than anyone on his beloved Leafs

  15. No mention of the Blue Jackets??? – all 4 Russians on the team scored in the victory against the Bruins!

  16. The issue isn't with one player choosing to wear equipment for a cause or group. The problem is when one player chooses not to on a theme night. That player gets mobbed with questions and at risk of the cancel committee.

  17. This is my fav podcast. After spittin chiclets. Keep it up guys. But more talk about canadian teams. Not just the leafs lol

  18. I'm a Leafs fan, and I want them to win it all so bad. I believe they have it in them, and this line-up could do it as much any other, perhaps (after all, they're all pro players)… I think one of the answers to these issues might be that there aren't enough consequences. They're too precious. I think back to when I played hockey as a kid – We carried our own equipment. We helped the weakest player get better instead of playing as individuals. There were bag skates when we lost or played poorly. If we didn't get off the ice quickly enough at the end of our shift, or screwed up our line changes, we got yelled at to hurry the hell up and get it together. Everyone pitched in, and a win was everyone's and a loss was everyone's. We played the fundamentals of hockey (clear your zone, don't pass it in front of your own net, frickin' backcheck every time… and if we got fancy (and it failed) we got benched until we got the point. And that was local minor hockey in a REALLY small town in the 80s. These Leafs are coddled millionaires in fancy clothes with every advantage and every resource at their fingertips. They wouldn't have to make excuses and be sensitive to criticism if they just put their heads down, shut out everything else for the season, manned up, and all pitched in together as a team (not as a collection of individuals) to get the frickin' thing done. You're right, if they could win it all they would be gods in Toronto. No more lip service, just forget everything else and get it done.

  19. There is nothing i love more than Adam saying some hot takes often BS, then Jesse just jumps in with stats and straight Up facts. Adam watch the leafs, Jesse knows His hockey. The schedule argument is the worst take of the year. The Canucks are right in the middle and he sticks with his top3 non sense.

  20. I don’t think most people seriously say “it doesn’t matter if the player gets injured”. I think what people mean is “it shouldn’t matter”.

We all agree DoPS sucks. I’m def surprised by y’all not thinking that hit is a bigger deal. He baseball bat swung his stick into someone’s head. Full stop. That has to be a multi game suspension. Has to. 3 games

  21. Hey I agree with most of what was said about the Canucks, but I think you need to check Q. Hughes defense again, him and heronik have been pretty solid

  22. If I were a NHL goalie I would wear a plain black or white mask that just says “I’m wearing this so I don’t get fined”

  23. Why not move bert and willy to first line and knies and marner to third. That will let us know if we have a matthews problem too

  24. Keep in kind we have not been scoring well on PP the last few games. That is with all of the stars on the ice at one time
